Plenty of moisture was in the track for Friday’s prelim.  “The track was wet and heavy for the heats and Qualifiers,” says Wayne.  “That made it really hard to pass there.  We were lucky enough to start on the pole of the heat and win it, and then we started fifth in the Qualifier and ran fourth.”

Wayne would line up inside row five for the main event.  “The track was a little better for the feature,” he says.  “We were able to get up to sixth there.  We had a restart with three or five laps to go, and I just screwed up.  We were too tight on the restart, and we couldn’t rotate the corner.  When you can’t do that, they get under you and you’re just beat.  We ended up ninth.”

He would line up seventh in Saturday’s heat race.  “We didn’t feel the best in the car,” says Wayne.  “We were able to get to fourth in the heat, and that put us outside row one for the Qualifier.  Tony Bruce was just better than us there and we finished second.  We weren’t good on Saturday.  We messed with the car a little too much, I think.”

Wayne would start the finale 12th, but things were slowed before they could get started.  “On the start, Martin Edwards got sideways and I ran over his left rear wheel,” he says.  “That got me sideways and (Josh) Baughman plowed into me.  It was a big wreck.  I went to the work area seven times to work on the car during the feature.”

The team worked hard to keep the car alive.  “We went in under all the yellows,” says Wayne.  “We were able to pass some cars, but our car was really in bad shape.  We lost the nose wing, the left front wheel, and the chassis was bent.  Ultimately, we ended up 14th.”

Wayne is excited about doing some 410 racing for the last time this season.  “We’re ready to go for the weekend,” he says.  “We’re looking forward to heading to Kansas City tomorrow night.  These are a couple of tracks that we’ve had success at.”
