The team’s first win came in May at Devil’s Bowl.  “Devil’s Bowl was a really good weekend for us,” says Wayne.  “It was good for us to get that first win as a team.  But then we kind of went into a dry spell there.”

Wayne added a win in ASCS regional competition at Lawton Speedway in Oklahoma, but struggled with the handling of his car the first half of the season.  “Through most of the year, I was just struggling to find a balance with the car,” he says.  “When we went back to the Maxim chassis around Nationals time is when things started going well for us.”

Wayne ran well in 410 competition in a smattering of World of Outlaws shows towards the end of the year.  He locked into the B main at the Knoxville Nationals as well.  “We felt really good with the 410 there towards the end of the year,” he says.  “Next year, we’ll be looking to run that with the All Stars and some other places when ASCS is off.”

The season was capped by a win at the Hockett/McMillin Memorial.  “That was really one of the most special races that we’ve ever won, to be honest,” says Wayne.  “Obviously, we were good friends with Jesse and Daniel too…so to win a race dedicated to them was definitely an honor.”

Wayne’s consistency towards the end of the season nailed down the third place spot in Lucas Oil ASCS National Sprint Car Series standings.  He hopes 2017 will see his second title with that series.  “We’re really looking forward to next year and our sophomore season with the #2c,” he says.  “It’s good to be set with our chassis and equipment.  Consistency is really the key in racing, and Slip (Conner Nelson) and Bud (Johnson) will be back helping me.  Pretty much all of our partners will be back with us as well.”
