Three nights in Ocala started on Friday with quick time for Brady.  “It was a good way to start the year,” he says.  “We were pretty good in the heat race.  It was slicking off quick, but we got up to third (from sixth).”

The Broken Arrow, Oklahoma driver would start sixth in the feature.  “Starting on the outside, it was really slick coming off of four,” he says.  “There was a little moisture on the bottom, so the cars got a good start down there.  I think I wound up about eleventh on the first lap.  We had tried some things, and I was able to get through the middle in one and two really well.”

Brady would surge all the way to the point.  “I was able to pass Robert (Ballou) in traffic for the lead,” he says.  “Then we had a yellow.  I don’t know if our tire went away…the track was getting slicker and shiny.  We just weren’t as good at the end.  Chase (Stockon) was able to get by us running the very top.  I moved up there while third, but I just wasn’t able to get back by them.  It was a good run.  We just weren’t quite as good at the end on the slick track.”

He would qualify seventh on Saturday.  “The track was still a little greasy in spots for qualifying,” says Brady.  “It really stayed that way until the last six or seven cars went out.  We had a decent first lap, but I hit a grease spot and about spun out on the second.  It turned out that seventh quick was a good place to be.”

Brady showed his strength in the heat race, winning from fifth.  Starting outside row one of the main event, he shot out to the lead and never looked back.  “We were able to start up front and lead every lap,” he says.  “It wasn’t the prettiest race, but it still counts.  I was getting tight at the end.  Chase made a run at us on the last lap.  He got us washed up the track in turn three, but we were able to hold on.  It was good to get our first win under our belt. Sometimes it’s hard to get the first one.”

Sunday’s finale at Ocala saw Brady set quick time again.  “That place is kind of tricky for people in qualifying,” he says.  “We have a pretty good package for it.  It’s always good to start the year off like that, with those quick times.  We ended up having a bad night, but we made up some points with our qualifying.”

He would finish second in his heat race.  “Dave (Darland) started fifth and we started sixth,” says Brady.  “He got out front of me, and once we both got clear of traffic, we were coming.  We were about the same speed.”

There were some mechanical issues in the feature, however.  Brady started sixth.  “We were able to get up to fourth and tried to make a pass on the outside,” he says.  “We got bottled up a little bit and lost a spot or two.  We had a yellow for Ballou and our motor stopped running.  I had to pull it in.  I think we would have had a top five, so that was disappointing.  We think it was probably a mag issue and not the motor, so that’s good.”

The action at East Bay this weekend is scheduled for Thursday through Saturday.  “I went and watched practice there last week, but I’ve never raced there,” says Brady.  “I’m looking forward to it.”
