Midwest Thunder Sprints Presented by OpenWheel101.com Schedule Starts This Weekend (Finally)!

Thursday, June 4, 2020
Trophy supplied by The Podium Awards, Newport, PATrophy supplied by The Podium Awards, Newport, PA (Bill W) June 4, 2020, Monroe, IA – This weekend marks the start of the fourth season for the Midwest Thunder Sprints presented by www.OpenWheel101.com!  It has been a long wait to start the season, but it will kick off this weekend in Knoxville, Iowa and Beaver Dam, Wisconsin.

With the season thus far being erratic at best and many of the shows being “invitation only,” in fairness, point eligible races haven’t begun.  That will change this weekend.  Knoxville Raceway gets its season underway, and the World of Outlaws visit Beaver Dam in Wisconsin.

All non-Platinum WoO members are eligible for the point fund set up at OpenWheel101.com!  Three-time and defending champion, Kerry Madsen, edged Bill Balog for the 2019 championship and the $2,000 prize.  Balog took home $1,000 and third place driver, Brian Brown beat Terry McCarl by 18 points for the third place $550 prize.  Over 180 drivers earned points last season (up over 40 from 2018 despite variouis weather issues), and there were 26 different winners in the 67 features contested.  Mother Nature was tough, with 17 rainouts and several postponed events.

The schedule for the next two weeks has been set, with the rest of the 2020 season to be determined.  The schedule will again consist of most 410 sprint car shows in the Upper Midwest.
