Temperatures that dropped into the 30’s greeted the All Stars in their opener.  Screven is a fast third-mile with good eats.  I went with BBQ wings and chicken and dumplings.

Donny Schatz (33rd car out to time) set quick time on the Georgia red clay that got faster as qualifying went on with a time of 13.216 seconds.  Tyler Courtney (30th car out) was second quick, followed by Sheldon Haudenschild (28th), Gio Scelzi (23rd), Aaron Reutzel (29th), Justin Peck (20th), Sam Hafertepe Jr. (25th), Cory Eliason (12th), Carson Short (16th) and Kyle Reinhardt (31st).  Hunter Schuerenberg, Eliason, Scelzi and Schatz were the quickest in their respective groups.

Heat one (started): 1. Anthony Macri 39m (1) 2. Schuerenberg 55 (4) 3. Kerry Madsen 101 (6) 4. Scotty Thiel 73 (2) 5. Mason Daniel 33m (5) / 6. Kraig Kinser 11K (7) 7. Danny Dietrich 48 (9) 8. Chris Myers 25 (3) 9. Bradley Howard 49H (8)

8-lap heats were split into groups and inverted four by time.  Winners of the heat and the fastest qualifier left over went to the Dash.  The top five went to the A.  Macri led Schuerenberg and Thiel early.  By lap two K. Madsen was up into the fourth spot.  Howard spun on lap six.  Macri led Schuerenberg, Thiel, K. Madsen and Daniel back to green.  K. Madsen shot his Ohio based ride into third at that point.  Kinser challenged Daniel late, but settled for sixth.

Heat two (started): 1. Short 21 (3) 2. Ian Madsen 11 (1) 3. Sean Rayhall 14R (2) 4. Eliason 26 (4) 5. Tony Stewart 14 (6) / 6. Tyler Ross 75 (9) 7. Cole Duncan 22 (8) 8. Jamie Myers 1 (5) 9. Brandon Conkel 08 (7)

Madsen dueled with Rayhall to lead lap one, but Short took advantage of their battle and shot by to lead lap two.  He went on to dominate a mostly single-file event.

Heat three (started): 1. Hafertepe 15H (2) 2. Brent Marks 5 (1) 3. Peck 13 (3) 4. Scelzi 18 (4) 5. Skylar Gee 28 (6) / 6. Carson McCarl 27 (5) 7. Danny Smith 4 (8) 8. Nick Tucker 70 (7)

Hafertepe hit the high side near the wall and dominated wire to wire.  Scelzi slid by Peck for third on lap two.  When Peck returned the favor on lap four, Scelzi appeared to settle into fourth and not risk losing his Dash spot.

Heat four (started): 1. Haudenschild 17 (2) 2. Schatz 15 (4) 3. Reutzel 83 (1) 4. Courtney 7BC (3) 5. Cale Conley 3c (5) / 6. Reinhardt 91 (6) 7. RJ Jacobs 18J (7) 8. Craig Pellegrini 27c (8)

Haudenschild led throughout with Schatz in hot pursuit.  Conley passed Reinhardt for the final transfer on lap two.

Dash one (started): 1. Haudenschild (2) 2. Courtney (1) 3. Schuerenberg (4) 4. Reutzel (3) 5. Eliason (5)

Four lap Dashes set up the inside (Dash one) and outside (Dash two) of the first five rows in the feature.

Dash two (started): 1. Hafertepe (1) 2. Schatz (4) 3. Short (2) 4. Scelzi (3) 5. Macri (5)nscjj

B main (started): 1. Reinhardt (1) 2. Jacobs (2) 3. Kinser (4) 4. Dietrich (7) / 5. McCarl (3) 6. C. Myers (9) 7. Ross (5) 8. Duncan (6) 9. Howard (14) 10. Smith (8) 11. Tucker (11) 12. J. Myers (10) 13. Conkel (13) 14. Pellegrini (12)

The 12-lap B took the top four to the feature.  Reinhardt led Jacobs and Kinser flag to flag.  The battle was for the fourth and final transfer.  McCarl slid by Thiel to take the spot on lap three.  Dietrich was fifth by lap three as well.  He gained on McCarl, but Carson was executing great moves in lapped traffic.  Dietrich had momentum in one and two on the last lap and slid by McCarl.  When McCarl came back across his bow in turn three, he turned it back down the high banks and both cars did wheelstands across the checkers with Dietrich edging McCarl for the spot.

Reinhardt (21) 23. Kinser (23) 24. Rayhall (14)

The 30-lapper saw Hafertepe scream to the high side and lead lap one over Haudenschild and Schatz, but that was called back for a Rayhall flip in turn one that necessitated a 20-minute fence repair.  After an open red, Hafertepe again shot out to the lead over Haudenschild, Courtney and Schatz.  Haudenschild slid by Hafertepe to take the point on lap three and entered lapped traffic on lap six.  A tangle involving Reinhardt, Thiel and Stewart collected the leader at that point.  Haudenschild restarted at the rear.  Dietrich and Kinser, who exited also came to a stop.  Hafertepe was back in the lead ahead of Courtney, Schatz, Reutzel and Short.  Two laps later, Haudenschild spun, collecting Thiel and Jacobs, ending his night.  The leaders stayed the same, with Hafertepe hitting lapped traffic at the halfway point.  Courtney turned it on at that point, and got by the leader to the point on lap 15.  Schatz was using the low side and also disposed of Hafertepe.  He set his sights on Courtney and shot under him on lap 18.  He dominated from there on.  Reutzel moved by Courtney on lap 24, but Courtney came back to the second spot on lap 26.  With three to go, Reutzel took second for good in a great battle, and was the hard-charger.  Meanwhile, Schatz had checked out.
