A Few Thoughts on the Weekend!

Josh Schneiderman won at Jacksonville Friday (Mark Funderburk Racing Photo)Josh Schneiderman won at Jacksonville Friday (Mark Funderburk Racing Photo) (Bill W) May 20, 2021, Monroe, IA – Congratulations to Josh Schneiderman for picking up his first career 410 win Friday at Jacksonville!  A caution late negated a pass by Joe B. Miller for the lead, so it was nail-biting time for Josh and his family the last several laps.  A couple of ruts and some taps of the wall later, and he was standing in Victory Lane with father Bart, brother and crew chief Jarrod, wife Brittany and son Bryar.

Jake Blackhurst got tangled in traffic while running second at Jacksonville, ending his chances to catch Josh.  Riley Goodno followed Miller to the podium.  The eighteen-year-old was doing double duty with his micro, before attempting Knoxville in both 410 and 360 before rain, and venturing to Huset’s on Sunday, where he tangled with Jack Croaker in a top ten battle.

Brian Brown topped them all at Jackson Motorplex in the $5,000 to win the NOSA Bull Haulers Brawl presented by Folkens Brothers Trucking on Friday.  Skylar Prochaska thrilled his home track contingent by getting by Brian on a narrow track, but Brown came back to take back the point on a restart for a much-needed win for his team.

Prochaska came home second, ahead of Matt Juhl, Brooke Tatnell and Justin Henderson.  Rainy conditions meant a heavy and fast track in Jackson.  The next 410 action at Jackson will come in late June with the Jackson Nationals.

NOSA brought quite a contingent of cars not only to Jackson, but also I-90 Speedway near Hartford, South Dakota, and Huset’s on Sunday.  Tim Estenson was the top finisher in sixth for the regulars at Jackson.

Austin Pierce struck for his first win of the year in NOSA action at I-90 on Saturday.  Jack Dover charged from twelfth to the runner-up spot in the Bowers #81 after finishing third to winner Jason Martin and Tyler Drueke in I-80 360 action Friday in his own car.  Jack added a run from 19th to fourth at Huset’s on Sunday.  His first win there seems imminent.  Estenson was third at I-90, followed by Brant O’Banion and Jody Rosenboom.

NOSA events saw 30 cars at Jackson, 28 at I-90 and 32 at Huset’s.  Henderson was the class of the field Sunday night at Huset’s after returning to the Upper Midwest from a Saturday Knoxville that was a wash after heat races.  This Saturday will see dual 410 features to make up.

Carson McCarl was steady in second at Huset’s, followed by Cody Ledger, Dover and Rosenboom.  Tempers flared on the heavy, narrow surface where real estate was hard to come by.  A number of accidents were the result, but no one was injured.  It was also great to see John “Long Hair” Lambertz back in Victory Lane with the Racesavers.

It should be a fun summer at Huset’s with the number of NOSA events scheduled.  The Northern Outlaw Sprint Association returns for a two-night event Sunday May 30 and Monday May 31.  The finale will pay a cool $7,500 to the winner.

Weather forecasts at Knoxville scared a few teams away to be sure, but Parker Price-Miller looked solid in his first night pairing with Guy Forbrook.  They are scheduled for the pole of the make-up feature.  Ayrton Gennetten may rethink his plan of four races in Indiana with the All Stars this weekend (at least leaving Saturday open) as he is slated to start outside row one.

The USAC National Sprint Cars invade Lakeside Speedway in Kansas Friday and Saturday.  The National Midget event last weekend in Sweet Springs, Missouri has been rescheduled for Sunday, July 11, and will now kick off Mid-America Midget Week.

The point standings have been shaken up a bit after last weekend’s action, with Josh Schneiderman, Brian Brown, Austin Pierce and Justin Henderson picking up the wins.  This week will see Knoxville Raceway’s two features, plus weekly action at Huset’s.

Brian Brown has taken the lead in the point race, ahead of Gio Scelzi, Rico Abreu, Justin Henderson and Ayrton Gennetten.  Austin McCarl, Sam Hafertepe Jr., Matt Juhl, Riley Goodno and Kyle Larson round out the current top ten.
