Friday night saw a heat and a Dash for the Nebraska 360’s.  Wayne would start fourth in his heat and finish second.  “The car was really good both nights,” he says.  “The track was a lot heavier on Friday.  We were able to move up a couple spots there in the heat race, and that put us in the redraw for the Dash.”

He would win the Dash from the fourth starting spot.  He was given the option of going to the tail of Saturday’s feature to double his money.  “Things went really well there in the Dash,” says Wayne.  “We were able to get up front there pretty quickly.  The math just didn’t add up to go to the back for Saturday.  We would have had to finish second to make it work.”

Wayne would start on the pole for Saturday night’s 25-lap main event.  The feature saw a number of red and caution flag periods.  “We had a good run from the start,” he says.  “The car was really good.  We had a flat there at the end.  I was going through turn three on the last lap, and the yellow came out.  We had a red flag there.  I was sitting in turn two, and (Jack) Dover and I both had tires go down.  On the restart, it was flat.”

He would limp across for the win with a flat tire and out of fuel.  “We were able to make it on the tire, but the car sputtered on the white flag,” says Wayne.  “We had lapped up to fourth, so I guess we would have finished fourth at the worst, even if we ran out.  We ended up making it though.”

Wayne utilized an Eagle Chassis at I-80.  “It worked really well,” he says.  “I thought we did a good job tuning on the car all weekend.  We actually could have been a little better Saturday, but when we got home we found the bolt on the left rear stop was cracked in two.  We lost some weight somewhere there.  Anytime you can beat Dover there, you’ve done well.  That’s his track and his deal.”

He was paid in a unique way.  “We’re on our way to the bank today to cash in all these two dollar bills,” says Wayne.  “They’re going to love me in there!”

Before Saturday’s event in Kilgore, Wayne will check in on his nephew, Bud, who will be competing in a 305 in Wichita Falls, Texas.  “I haven’t seen him race for a couple of years, so this will be a good time,” he says.  “I can crew chief a little bit there.”
