(Bill W) June 16, 2015 – “Dynamite” Mark Dobmeier won another good race at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, North Dakota last Friday night. The win was #110 in his career there. Tonight, the Jimco Motorsports #13 team will race the first of three nights with the World of Outlaws at the Granite City Speedway in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota. The WoO moves on to Mark’s hometown track at River Cities Friday before making its first ever appearance at the Dakota State Fair Speedway in Huron, South Dakota Saturday. The team will also be back at Huset’s Speedway near Brandon, South Dakota for weekly action on Sunday.
Mark would drive from eighth to second in his heat on Friday. “The River Cities Speedway has really been stepping up their game on the track prep,” he says. “I hope it’s the same way on Friday for the Outlaws. They’ve been nailing it the last few weeks.”
Starting eighth in the feature, it took a while before he would gain ground on the leaders. “The bottom was faster, which isn’t typical,” says Mark. “I tried the top right away, and I wasn’t gaining anything. I went back to the bottom and got a few cars down there. That got me to fourth or fifth. The track was smooth, but the bottom was a little quicker. There was more moisture down there. The top got to be a little far going around.”
Mark would try the cushion again. “I went up top about halfway through and the leaders were in heavy lapped traffic,” he says. “I chose to try the top. It took four or five laps to burn the marbles off up there. Once I did, I made my own lane and got a little faster. We were able to sneak by them and pull away by the end of the race.”
Unfortunately, the Outlaw show at Huset’s on Sunday was a parade around the bottom. Mark was in line checkering 12th. “I was surprised by the track,” he says. “You could see the track was very dry when we got there. I heard rumors the water truck broke. It got to be a race around the bottom from the heat through the feature. There wasn’t a whole lot of racing going on.”
Things are going to get very busy for the team the next two months. “We’ve got these four races planned this week,” says Mark. “We were a little slow in June, but we’ll be hitting it hard in July. The NSL picks back up the week after this one.”
