IRA/NOSA Shootout

38 cars

Two flights of qualifying saw Brenda Mullen (8th car out to time) set quick time in the first group and overall at 13.822 seconds, about four tenths off Joey Saldana’s 2014 record, the last time 410’s visited.  Brenham Crouch (5th car out) was second quick in the group, followed by Zach Omdahl (1st), Austin Hartmann (12th) and Danny Schlafer (19th).  The second group saw Scott Neitzel (1st car out) set quick time ahead of Jordan Goldesberry (4th), Austin Pierce (2nd), Jade Hastings (5th) and Russel Borland (3rd).  Blake Egeland failed to get a time in in the first group.

Heat one (started): 1. Jack Croaker 8 (1) 2. Mullen 11m (4) 3. Z. Omdahl 17 (3) 4. D. Schlafer 25 (2) 5. Skylar Prochaska 35 (5) / 6. Preston Ruh 26R (7) 7. Jordan Graham 99 (6) 8. Patrick Heikkinen 13H (8) DNS – Tyler Tischendorf 26, Blake Egeland 26E

8 lap heats took the top five to the feature.  The heat winners and three fastest qualifiers in each group making a heat transfer qualified for the Dashes.  Croaker led the distance ahed of Mullen.  Z. Omdahl made a sliding pass of Schlafer in the last corner to nail down third.

Heat two (started): 1. Josh Schneiderman 49 (2) 2. Crouch 1 (4) 3. Nick Omdahl 0 (1) 4. Hartmann 87A (3) 5. Gage Pulkrabek G5 (5) / 6. Reed Allex 91 (8) 7. Scott Conger 24 (7) 8. William Huck 39V (9) 9. Weston Olson 27 (6)

Schneiderman led N. Omdahl and Crouch early.  Crouch put a slider on Omdahl to gain second on lap two before a fifth running Olson got into the turn three wall and flipped.  He was done for the night.  Schneiderman led Crouch, N. Omdahl, Hartmann and Pulkrabek back to green.  Pulkrabeck passed Hartmann on the low side for fourth at the halfway point, but Hartmann got back by on the white flag lap in a good battle.

Heat three (started): 1. Jake Neuman 3N (1) 2. Borland 23 (2) 3. Neitzel 2w (4) 4. Pierce 2A (3) 5. Caden Englehart 71m (5) / 6. Joel Myers Jr. 46 (7) 7. Jack Vanderboom U2 (6) 8. Kris Spitz 4K (8) 9. Josh Swangler 10s (9) 10. Bill Wagner 78 (10)

Neuman dominated from the start and won by eight seconds.  There was plenty of action behind him.  On lap two, California’s Myers shot from seventh to the fifth and final transfer.  He then passed Pierce on the low side for fourth on lap five.  The last lap saw fourth through sixth place drivers three-wide, with Pierce moving into fourth, and Englehart getting by both Vanderboom and Myers to steal the final transfer.

Heat four (started): 1. Mark Dobmeier 13 (2) 2. Travis Arenz 25T (1) 3. Goldesberry 65 (4) 4. Hastings 8H (3) 5. Tim Estenson 14T (6) / 6. Ryan Bowers 199 (7) 7. Christopher Thram 24T (5) 8. Kyle Schuett 9K (8) 9. Al Schlafer 25A (9)

Dobmeier led the distance.  Arenz took second from Hastings on lap two, while Bowers moved into the fifth and final transfer.  Goldesberry shot by Hastings for third on lap three.  Estenson had lost momentum early, but came back to pass Bowers in a very good race for the final transfer with two to go.

Dash one (started): 1. Crouch (1) 2. Croaker (2) 3. Mullen (3) 4. Z. Omdahl (4) 5. Schneiderman (5)

4-lap Dashes determined the inside and outside of rows one through five in the feature.  They were both single-file affairs.

Dash two (started): 1. Dobmeier (1) 2. Pierce (2) 3. Goldesberry (4) 4. Neitzel (3) 5. Neuman (5)

B main (started): 1. Myers (2) 2. Ruh (3) 3. Bowers (4) 4. Vanderboom (6) / 5. Spitz (8) 6. Schuett (10) 7. Tischendorf (1) 8. Allex (5) 9. Conger (7) 10. A. Schlafer (12) 11. Heikkinen (11) 12. Huck (13) 13. Wagner (14) 14. Graaham (9) DNS – Thram, Swangler, Olson, Egeland

The 12-lap B took the top four to the A.  The original front row was vacated when Thram didn’t start and Tischendorf spun in staging and was sent to the tail.  Myers jumped to the front, ahead of Ruh, Bowers and Vanderboom, and that’s how they would finish.  Tischendorf was working his way back up before spinning again two laps in.  He would climb to seventh at the end.

A main (started): 1. Dobmeier (2) 2. Mullen (5) 3. Croaker (3) 4. Neuman (10) 5. Pierce (4) 6. Hastings (16) 7. Schneiderman (9) 8. Myers Jr. (21) 9. Goldesberry (6) 10. Neitzel (8) 11. Z. Omdahl (7) 12. Vanderboom (24) 13. Borland (12) 14. D. Schlafer (15) 15. Crouch (1) 16. Prochaska (17) 17. Bowers (23) 18. Pulkrabek (19) 19. Hartmann (13) 20. Estenson (20) 21. Englehart (18) 22. Ruh (22) 23. Arenz (14) 24. Z. Omdahl (11)

The 30-lapper saw Dobmeier leading Crouch, Croaker, Mullen and Pierce early.  The leaders hit lapped traffic on lap six.  On lap nine, Crouch worked low in three and four to take the lead in traffic.  On lap thirteen, Arenz brought out the caution.  Crouch led Dobmeier, Croaker, Mullen and Pierce.  Pierce snatched fourth on the restart, but on lap 15, both Mullen and 20th starting Estenson rolled back by him for fourth and fifth.  Ruh suffered a right rear flat on lap 17, resulting in another caution.  Mullen snagged third on lap restart, while Estenson gained another snopt on lap 19.  With nine to go, disaster struck Crouch when his right rear tire blew.  Dobmeier inherited the lead ahead of Estenson, Mullen, Croaker and Hastings. Estenson slid under Dobmeier in turn one to bid for the improbable lead from row ten, but Dobs battled back by.  Englehart tipped over with five to go.  During the red, Estenson’s right rear went flat ending a great run.  Dobmeier held the lead the rest of the way to gain the $3,000 prize with Mullen in tow.  Neuman came on late, grabbing third briefly, but settling for fourth.  Myers Jr. was the hard-charger.
