Over the years, around the Ohio region, Mark and Brad Malcuit have piled up numerous wins on the dirt and asphalt surfaces, and on Tuesday night, Henry Malcuit etched his name into the history books by winning the NAPA All Star Circuit of Champions race at Orrville’s Historic Oval. Starting fifth in the Bob Chaney Memorial presented by HSX, Helms & Sons Excavating, Malcuit would spend the early laps passing by Trey Jacobs and Chris Myers while holding off Tyler Street and Brandon Spithaler as Cale Thomas led the way followed by Zane DeVault and Zeth Sabo. Thomas built up a three second lead but the right rear on the #49x on lap 15 ended his hopes of a win. On the restart, Sabo overpowered DeVault for the lead as Malcuit moved into third. As Sabo slowly stretched his lead out, disaster would hit on lap 21 for DeVault as his right rear tire on the #4 machine exploded, causing him to tag the turn three guardrail and puncturing his tail tank as gas started leaking out and bringing out the red flag as the track officials had to burn the gas off the racing surface. With the green flag waving again, Malcuit and his Strasburg based SugarCreek Cartage, McIntosh Oil, Red Malcuit Inc and Speedie Recycling #70 challenged Sabo for the top spot. Using the high groove, coming out of turn two, Malcuit took the lead from Sabo who would bang off the turn two wall on lap 26 trying to stay with Malcuit. With laps dwindling down, lap traffic became an issue for both front runners, giving Sabo a couple of chances at the lead and he was able to slip by Malcuit briefly on laps 32 and 33 before Malcuit returned the favor as both drivers were using different grooves at both ends of the track vying for the win. Malcuit would stick it low coming through the last corner and win by less than two car lenghts to end up in C K Mechanical victory lane for his first ASCoC win and his second in a row at WCS. Trey Jacobs finished third with Darin Naida taking the Hoosier Tire Hard Charger award for fourth, as Devon Borden filled out the top five.

Wayne County Speedway will be back in action Saturday night, August 16 for Food Drive night and another Fast Five program with the Pine Tree Towing Sprints, the Malcuit Tavern Super Late Models, the Flynn’s Tire & Auto Service Modifieds, the Canton Glass House Super Stocks and the JoyRide Mini Stocks. It will be the next to last O’Reilly’s Auto Parts Race to the Championship points night with Season Championship night and double points on Saturday, August 23.

The NAPA  All Star Circuit of Champions will return to Wayne County Speedway for the Pete Jacobs Memorial on Sunday, August 31.
