The 30-lapper was a top five feature of the year for me. Leary jumped out to the early lead over Moles and Swanson. On lap two, Danner jumped from fourth to second, and then took the lead from Leary on the high side on lap three. Five laps in, it was Danner, Leary, Moles, Cummins and Swanson. Cummins took third from Moles on lap seven, and then put a slider on Leary in turn one to take second on lap 12. Danner entered traffic on lap 13, before Swanson’s fourth place run came to an end at the halfway point, in a tangle with the lapped cars of Mattox and Amantea. Danner led Cummins, Leary, Grant and Moles back to green. Cummins passed Danner on lap 18 in a battle that was just heating up. Leary trailed in third, as the team cars of Moles and Reinbold moved into fourth and fifth. The lead pair were dancing alone. When Cummins stumbled in turn two with five to go, Danner leaped on the opportunity and took the lead. A caution came out shortly after for Rogers, who had a flat left rear. Danner held off Cummins on the restart, but with three to go, Cummins slid back by him to lead. Danner came right back with two to go, and held on for his second USAC win at Kokomo this year. Lewis earned $200 from Rod End Supply for hard-charger.
