Crates

47 Crate Sprint Cars qualified in three groups. Group one made up heats one and two. Brett Stratford set quick time in the first group and overall at 14.818 seconds. Eric Gledhill was second in that group, followed by Lucas Smith. Adrian Stahle led the second group at 15.228 seconds, followed by Josh Verne Jr and Lee Ladouceur, who was disqualified. Holly Porter was quickest in the final group at 14.824 seconds, followed by Jesse Costa and Tom Pellizzari.

Heat one (started): 1. 8-Lucas Smith (3); 2. 94-Ryan Fraser (2); 3. BS39-Brett Stratford (4) / 4. 2M-Steve Murdock (5); 5. 77-Liam Ladouceur (1); 6. 26X-Campbell Baker (6); 7. 9C-Brian Nanticoke (8); 8. 11W-Josh Robertson (7)

10-lap heats inverted four and took three to the feature. Li Ladouceur was penalized from the pole at the outset. Smith inherited the pole and led wire to wire. Murdock took fourth on lap five, but could gain no more.

Heat two (started): 1. 14-Eric Gledhill (4); 2. 87-Andrew Hennessy (2); 3. 01K-Mikey Kruchka (3) / 4. 45-Curtis Gartly (6); 5. 74-Rob Neely (1); 6. 777A-Tyler Willard (7); 7. 51-Trevor Young (5); 8. 22-Tyson Gregory (8)

Gledhill shot to the lead from row two at the outset, ahead of Hennessy, Gartly and Neely. Kruchka shot from fifth to third on lap two, and then took second from Hennessy on lap four. Hennessy would retake second on lap eight after a restart six laps in for a spun Gregory.

Heat three (started): 1. 28T-Cameron Thomson (2); 2. 92-Adam Turner (6); 3. 3B-Blaine Barrow (1) / 4. 50LS-Adrian Stahle (4); 5. 20-Johnny Miller (5); 6. M52-Marc Surprenant (7); 7. 24A-AJ Lewis (3); 8. 47B-Mitchel Brosseau (8)

Thomson led the distance. Turner gained third from Stahle on lap two and then went around Barrow for second in the last corner.

Heat four (started): 1. 1V-Josh Verne Jr (4); 2. 57C-Cooper Fritz (2); 3. 44-Connor Ross (1) / 4. 51L-Lee Ladouceur (7); 5. 26-John Verney (5); 6. 4K-Jamie Kay (6); 7. 55-Cory Whittam (8); 8. 24K-Kiana Teal (3)

Ross was penalized for jumping the start. Verne shot into the lead right away in front of Teal, Fritz and Ross. Lee Ladouceur had moved into fifth after his DQ by lap three. Teal’s second place run came to an end when she tagged the infield wall five laps in. Verne led Fritz, Ross, Lee Ladouceur and Verney back to green. A good battle ensued for the final transfer, with Ladouceur wrestling the spot away with two to go. Ross came back to reclaim it coming for the white flag.

Heat five (started): 1. 72I-Bruno Richard (2); 2. 5D-Jacob Dykstra (1); 3. 1-Holly Porter (4) / 4. 53-Logan Shwedyk (6); 5. 5-Tom Pellizzari (3); 6. 85C-Cam MacKinnon (5); 7. 88R- Riley Mercer (7); 8. 24R-Rodney Rutherford (8)

Richard took the early lead over Dykstra, Pellizzari and Porter. Mercer spun a lap in. Porter moved by Pellizari for the third transfer spot on the low side of four after the restart. Mercer spun a second time on lap seven and was asked to leave.

Heat six (started): 1. 52-Jesse Costa (4); 2. 3S-Austin Roes (2); 3. 2-Travis Hofstetter (1) / 4. 88-Lance Erskine (5); 5. 16X-Keegan Baker (6); 6. 2S-Al Sleight (3); 7. 69K-Ken Hamilton (7)

Costa set sail right away and was gone. It was foreshadowing for later. Roes took second from Hofstetter on lap two. Sleight took fourth from Erskine on lap four, but Erskine battled back for the spot on lap five.

C main (started): 1. 51-Trevor Young (4); 2. 24K-Kiana Teal (9); 3. 9C-Brian Nanticoke (1); 4. 55-Cory Whittam (11) / 5. 88R-Riley Mercer (2); 6. 69K-Ken Hamilton (3); 7. 24A-AJ Lewis (5); 8. 24R-Rodney Rutherford (10); 9. 22-Tyson Gregory (7); 10. 11W-Josh Robertson (8); 11. 47B-Mitchel Brosseau (6)

The 10-lapper took the top four to the back of the B. Nanticoke led Mercer, Hamilton, Young and Teal early. Gregory spun a lap in, bringing caution. Young grabbed third from Hamilton on the restart. Teal gained fourth from Hamilton on lap four. Young took the point on the low side on lap six. Teal gained third from Mercer coming for the white flag, and passed Nanticoke for second on the last lap. Whittam was a late charger and grabbed the final transfer from Mercer on the final lap.

The 5-lapper determined the starting lineup for the feature. Gledhill led green to checker with Costa in tow. Smith grabbed fifth from Richard on lap two before he spun on lap three. Richard would gain fourth on the restart.

The top six finishers in the 12-lapper made the A main, as did the next six in passing points. Lee Ladoucuer led throughout. Erskine snagged fifth on the low side, getting by Stahle on lap three. He then took fourth from Gartly on the high side with four to go. Pellizzari and Whittam came together at the same time, bringing the caution. The lead six stayed the same.

The 35-lapper went non-stop with the 30 cars starting. Gledhill led the first lap, but Costa took over from there and began pulling away. He entered lapped traffic on lap eight. Hennessy was a big mover, passing Richard for fourth on lap 16. Dykstra would follow him into fifth a lap later. Hennessy would gain third on the low side, getting by Verne on lap 24. Up front, it was no contest, as Costa won by over seven seconds. Shwedyk was the hard-charger.

Drivers transferred to the feature using passing points from 8-lap heats. The top 30 made the Twin Features, with no B main run. Stambaugh led the distance in this one in a mostly single-file affair.

Heat two (started, *qualified for feature): 1. 28-Jordan Poirier (2*); 2. 77E-Ashton VanEvery (3*); 3. 19D-Allan Downey (5*); 4. 21K-Kyle Phillips (4*); 5. 15H-Sam Hafertepe Jr (6*); 6. 52-Scott Kreutter (7); 7. 28K-Tate O'Leary (1)

O’Leary and Poirier battled early before the latter took control.

Heat three (started, *qualified for feature): 1. 9-Liam Martin (2*); 2. 70-Baily Heard (1*); 3. 0JB-Justin Barger (4*); 4. 17X-Cory Turner (5*); 5. 45-Nick Sheridan (6*); 6. 6-Ryan Coniam (3); 7. 13-Evan Reynolds (7)

L Martin led the distance. Sheridan, Turner and Coniam put on an entertaining battle back in the pack.

Heat four (started, *qualified for feature): 1. 21-Alex Therrien (2*); 2. 28F-Davie Franek (6*); 3. 88H-Josh Hansen (1*); 4. 84-Mike Lichty (4*); 5. 43-Scott Sherk (5*); 6. 77T-Tyeller Powless (3)

Therrien led Hansen, Powless and Franek early. Hansen used the low side to take the lead on lap three before performing a 360 spin, and bringing the yellow flag. He restarted at the tail, while Therrien chose the inside line on the double-file restart, ahead of Powless, Franek and Lichty. Franek took second on the restart, while Hansen shot from the back up to fourth. Powless got into the infield wall with two to go, ending his night.

Swierik led throughout over Turner. Dryden took third from Turkey on lap two.

Heat six (started, *qualified for feature): 1. 87XS-Skyler Evans (1*); 2. 5-DJ Christie (5*); 3. 87-Jason Barney (4*); 4. 46-Kevin Pauls (2*); 5. 94X-Scott Hall (6*); 6. 81-Tyler Reynolds (3)

The 14 year-old Evans looked beyond his years in this one. Christie got to second from row three right away. A restart for a stopped Reynolds was an opportunity for Christie, but the youngster held him off in good fashion.

Winners of the 15-lappers are guaranteed a top ten starting spot in Saturday’s $30,000 to win Northern Sprint Nationals. Franek led Poirier, Stambaugh and Therrien. Therrien passed Stambaugh for third on lap two. Up front, Poirier passed Franek for the lead with Therrien in tow. Dryden snagged third on lap 11.

Christie led from the outset over L Martin, Downey, Evans and Turner. Evans got by Downey for third on lap two. Sheridan moved into the top five after starting 12th on lap four. He shot under Downey for fourth on lap five. Christie was into lapped traffic by lap nine, but there was no stopping him in his first feature win at Ohsweken.
