Cox took the lead early in the 8-lapper, while Bruce got a jump into the top three. After working on Juhl for several laps he worked under him and reeled in Cox. He would take the lead on lap seven with a move on the low side entering turn one to earn the high point total of the night.

Morgan tipped over on the first try at green. On the restart, Brown would slip out of gear down the backstretch. Morgan restarted at that point. The third try was not a charm as Beaver got high into the turn three fence and flipped hard, ending his night. He was not injured. Halverson led lap one, before Drueke moved by. Brown was fourth on the first lap and worked by Halverson for third with two laps to go. Lasoski followed him to take fourth in the last corner.

Tatnell led the distance in a mostly single-file affair. The top three was set on lap one when Loyet shot under Gharst in turn four to take third.

Bakker led the distance. Johnson worked by Henderson at the halfway point for second. Dover reeled in Henderson the last two laps, but couldn’t quite work by him.

Hahn led early on until suffering motor problems on lap five. Swindell inherited the lead ahead of Lusk, Prochaska, Dobmeier and Barber.

Henderson led the 10-lapper early on. Dover shot by Lasoski on lap two and tracked down the leader, passing him to complete lap six.

Bergman led the distance. On lap two, Heser spun in 4th, collecting Zomer. Both were done. Bergman led Winters, Gharst, Halverson and Boston back to green, and that’s the way they would finish.

Swindell led from the outset in the 25-lapper ahead of Bakker and Brown. Dobmeier came to a stop off the backstretch with four laps in to bring caution. At the time, Swindell led Bakker, Brown, Tatnell and Drueke back to green. Only two more laps commenced before Juhl came to rest and retired. Back under green, Johnson worked by Drueke for fourth on lap 10 before Bergman blew a left rear with twelve laps in, collapsing the wing at the end of the frontstretch and sending him over the turn one berm and into the guardrail. He was uninjured. The restart saw Swindell leading Bakker, Brown, Johnson and Drueke. Dover was up to eighth and that point and charging. Winters went up in smoke on the attempt at a restart. The race went green the next eleven laps, with Dover moving his way into the top five. When the 8th place car of McCarl got over the turn one berm with two laps to go, it opened the track in front of Swindell, who cruised to victory. The top four locked themselves into Saturday night’s $4,000 to win finale.
Woodke Cup Challenge (started): 1. Halverson (1) 2. Lusk (2) 3. Johnson (8) 4. Prochaska (3) 5. Selvage (6) 6. Wood (5) 7. Boston (4) 8. Swindell (7) DNS – Beaver, Herrera
The challenge was $1,500 to win and fourteen laps in distance. The top two in points in attendance from ASCS, ASCS-Midwest, Jackson Speedway and Knoxville Raceway were eligible. Beaver scratched after his heat race crash and Herrera elected not to start. Wood was the replacement as the Knoxville rep and Swindell replaced Herrera. Halverson led the distance in an extremely popular win for the local fans. Lusk trailed in second the distance. Johnson claimed third from Prochaska on lap three. Swindell exited at the halfway point.
