(August 4, 2013) The 2nd annual Capitani Classic was the site of Kevin Swindell’s fourth Knoxville Raceway triumph as the Germantown, Tenn. shoe dominated all 25 laps of the tribute to former Race Director of the Knoxville Raceway, Ralph Capitani.

“From like the first lap, I knew it was really good. I just kept having to tell myself to breath,” commented Swindell of his dominating performance. “There was a real fine line to get off [turn] two that you had to hit, and you had to be pretty precise to get off. I just made sure I kept getting the wing back every time I slipped up because when you get to dirty air, just in that little bit of lapped traffic, these things suck to drive.”

Challenged briefly on the initial start, Terry McCarl grabbed the lead with a low side pass only to see the caution fly for the spun No. 18 of Ian Madsen.

Leading by 2.568 seconds on Lap 5, the caution flew the following circuit for Jon Agan who spun in turn three.

Underway, the race was for third as Brian Brown worked past Justin Henderson with Henderson retaking the spot on Lap 7 with both drivers chasing Terry McCarl for the runner up spot. Closing in on the Rossie Feed and Grain No. 24, Henderson grabbed the runner-up spot on Lap 12 as the caution flew for Kyle Larson who wheel stood the Abreu Vineyard No. 1k before coming to a stop in the turn four entrance to the infield.

On the restart, Justin Henderson dove to the hub in turn one, but to no avail as Kevin Swindell again powered the Indy Race Parts No. 71s to the point.

Working the cushion from start to finish, Kevin Swindell crossed 2.861 seconds ahead of Justin Henderson.

“It’s a cryin’ shame when somebody is that good,” chuckled Justin Henderson. “He was gone. He was really fast. I think my car was maybe good enough to catch him; I just hung around the middle a little bit too long and made some mistakes.”

Brian Brown worked to third with Shane Stewart coming from eighth to fourth. Craig Dollansky completed the top five with Terry McCarl, Paul McMahan, Daryn Pittman, Brad Sweet, and Stevie Smith making up the top ten.

Knoxville Raceway comes back to life Wednesday, August 7 with the start of the 53rd FVP Knoxville Nationals. Hot Laps are scheduled to begin at 6:45 P.M. (CDT). Further information, including night-by-night breakdown of qualifying nights can be found athttp://www.knoxvilleraceway.com.
