Brady was fourth quick in the first practice session and third quick in the second on Sunday.  “We were good in our second hot lap group especially,” he says.  “The track ended up changing more than we thought it would for qualifying.  The track went away faster than what we expected.  We weren’t that far off in the end, and we ended up sixth quick.”

That meant starting outside row three for the 100-lap main event.  “We were pretty good the first half of the feature,” says Brady.  “We were able to get up to third at one point.  We were running the top and that’s where we were catching people.  Eventually, that went away, and we didn’t have the grip that some had just putting around the bottom.  In the end, we were sixth.”

Overall, it was a solid start to the season for Brady and the Martens team.  “We were able to run there in the top five most of the way, and we had no issues,” he says.  “Back when we started as a team, we had our share, so it’s good that we’ve put those behind us and we can concentrate on the car going forward.”

The next Silver Crown event for the team will be at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in late May.
“We’ve made some changes with the package,” says Brady.  “We’ll tweak some more the next race, and try to get out of this funk we’ve been in finishing fourth through sixth.”

Brady is excited about pulling double-duty at Kokomo this weekend.  “We’re looking forward to getting there,” he says.  “We’ve been good with the midget team.  The sprint car portion will give us a chance to get some tuning time in with that car.”

The trip to the west coast over the last couple of weeks to compete with the WoO was a little frustrating.  “Anytime we got a good run going, it seemed something would happen,” says Brady.  “We would pass a couple of cars and a yellow would come out.  Nothing went our way.  We were collected in a crash at Placerville.  The same happened at Perris in the USAC/CRA car.  Just other people’s messes.  Things just weren’t going our way.”
