The Oklahoma City driver looked good in practice with the WoO Friday at Sedalia.  “When we hot-lapped, it really went too well, to be honest,” says Wayne.  “We didn’t change anything for qualifying and the racetrack blew off.  We were junk (26th quick).”

That put Wayne in row four in a heat that would take the top five.  “We changed some things and we were really good,” he says.  “I really felt like we were faster than Ian (Madsen).  We just had no way to get by him (finishing sixth).  We were really good in the B too.  We went from sixth to second in the end there.  The car was working well.”

He would start in row eleven in the feature.  “I felt like we passed every car that we could have in the feature,” says Wayne.  “When (leader Donny) Schatz showed me his wheels, I moved over.  I didn’t want to be a part of the race for the lead.  At that point, I kind of stayed with him.  A couple more got by me, and I decided I’d get back in the groove and get rolling.  On the last restart, we were able to get by (Terry) McCarl.  I didn’t realize it at the time, but that was for position (17th).  I thought we passed every car we could.  We just got a late start with qualifying.”

The series moved to Wichita Saturday.  “The motor wouldn’t run,” says Wayne.  “It would idle and wouldn’t take throttle.  So we never got out to hot lap.  Come to find out, the fuel filter was only half open.  We went out to qualify, and it wasn’t horrible (17th).  I was all jacked up in the heat race though.  I caused a caution by running off the track.  I ran up to the transfer cars, but I couldn’t get by them.”

After finishing third in the B, Wayne started 21st in the feature.  “I ran out there until we were lapped, and I pulled in,” he says.  “The track was decent, we just weren’t very good.  I think everyone is struggling a little bit with balance on their racecars, and when you take a couple of weeks off, that makes a difference too.”

Hopefully, the team can get more laps under their belt this week.  “We need to get rolling on our stuff and get some races in,” says Wayne.  “Hopefully, this week will be the one where we can get a few races in.”
