Mark in Jackson (Jeff Bylsma Photo)Mark in Jackson (Jeff Bylsma Photo) (Bill W) June 26, 2017 – Mark Dobmeier and the Jimco Racing/Polaris #13 team turned in another solid weekend that saw a second place run at the Norman County Raceway in Ada, Minnesota with NOSA Thursday, and a fifth place run at Jackson Motorplex in Minnesota Friday.  The Grand Forks, North Dakota driver leads the point race at Jackson, heading into another weekend that will see him compete at Jackson Friday and with the World of Outlaws at the Dakota State Fair Speedway in Huron, South Dakota Saturday.

A heat win started things in Ada Thursday.  “NOSA does kind of an ASCS format where you draw for your heat and get passing points,” says Mark.  “We drew the pole, which hurts you a little bit, because you have to win and then you still don’t get the most points.  We were able to win it.  It was extremely dry.  It actually started taking a little rubber in the heats.”

The track’s dry conditions would remain for the feature.  Mark would redraw a starting spot inside row three.  “They did the best they could to save the track,” he says.  “They scratched it and watered it, but it was only about five laps before the rubber came down.  By then, we were third and right on Wade Nygaard and Thomas Kennedy, who were leading it.”

He would stay with the leaders.  “The race was getting interesting when Wade got to lapped traffic,” says Mark.  “Thomas and I got up next to him and we were almost three-wide.  At that point, the yellow came out, so we had to get back in line.  We snuck by Thomas with about two laps to go, and finished second.”

Mark as second quick in time trials at Jackson Friday.  “Our qualifying has been spot on at Jackson,” he says.  “We were just a sliver off of Kerry Madsen’s quick time, so we felt good there.”

Things went very well in the heat.  “We had a pretty stellar heat race,” says Mark.  “We started sixth, and you have to make the top four to get your time back.  It almost hurts you more to qualify well, but we were really good.  We got to the lead by the second lap and kept on trucking.”

After an invert of ten was drawn for the feature, Mark lined up inside row five.  “We had an awesome car really,” he says.  “There were a couple of racing circumstances that hurt us.  We got going right away.  We were able to get by Madsen and up into fifth or sixth.  We got racing with Matt Juhl and we got by him.  We came up on Austin Johnson and it looked like he was going low.  He got tight and bicycled in front of us.  I had to check the car up and Juhl got back by us.  We were racing with him a lot of the way and that broke our momentum.”

Still, he was happy with the car and ended with a top five.  “I really think we had a top three car,” says Mark.  “We ended up fifth.  It was a decent Jackson track.  The moisture was on the bottom.  I took one last shot in a bunch of lapped cars when we were running fourth.  Scott Winters and Juhl were kind of tied up with them, so I chose to go to the top to try to whip around them.  (Brooke) Tatnell got by us on the bottom and we ended up fifth.  So we had a good car; it was just circumstances that affected our finish.  All in all, we added points to our lead there and we were happy.”
