Ortega led the first lap, but Lovegrove worked the bottom on the well prepared banked 3/8 mile. Lutz, Dover and Wolfgang put on a show. At one point, they were three-wide in turn four. Dover got the best of the battle for second. Ortega was running in second when he slipped and almost spun with two to go.

Anderson led early, while Humston got a great jump into second. His pass for the lead was negated on lap three when Schaefer spun. Cornell had moved into third. Humston repeated his move and led lap three. On lap four, Anderson slid in front again for the point. Quickly Cornell came out of nowhere to pass the lead two cars in some great racing. Humston's right front tire went flat and he exited on lap eight. Boston used the bottom late to advance to second.

Lovegrove made the bottom work to lead the first four laps. Brown used the far high side to gain the point thereafter. Things were slowed in the 25-lapper when O'Banion spun on lap six. Brown led Lovegrove, Boston, Dover and Droud Jr. Humston was flying and into fifth by lap 10. Brown entered lapped traffic on the 13th circuit. Dover reeled in Brown and made a successful pass for the lead. Brown returned the favor when Dover got into the turn two wall a lap later. The final slowdown came on lap 10, when Brown and the lapped car of Foster tangled leaving the latter with a broken front end. Ortega exited at the time. That set a four lap shootout up with Brown ahead of Dover, Cornell, Lovegrove and Droud Jr. Brown was never headed and padi $2,000. Cornell hit the wall hard on the restart and lost third to Lovegrove. It took him until lap 23 to regain the position. Humston was easily the hard charger by driving from 18th to 6th,.
