Before a lap could be completed, Maier spun in turn one. Covington performed a 360 in turns three and four and then came to a stop on the frontstretch. He retired. Bruce grabbed the lead early in the nonstop 25 lapper with Robb, Sides and Ramey in tow. Robb hit the high side of the speedway and began to gain on Bruce. The 15 year old took the point on lap ten and began to pull away in traffic. Hopes of a win were shattered when he lost power and dropped out on lap twelve. Meanwhile, Wright had moved around W. Johnson and Ramey into third. He worked by Sides, but was still a half a straightaway behind the leader, Bruce. Brown dropped out on lap 16. W. Johnson shot under Ramey and tried to get by Sides with five to go. Sides crowded him to the low side on the front stretch and held onto third after being passed by Wright. Wright gained on Bruce in the late stages, and won in dramatic fashion with a pass on the low side of turn four on the final lap. Chappell moved up to third in impressive fashion.
