Bailey Goldesberry - So Close at Jacksonville!

(Brendon Bauman Photo)(Brendon Bauman Photo) (Bill W) June 26, 2017 – Bailey Goldesberry led most of the way in the 305 sprint car feature last Friday at Jacksonville Speedway in Illinois, only to be passed late in the going.  The second-place finish marks Bailey’s best sprint car finish though, and it gives here momentum heading into this weekend.  She will be competing with her 360 against the Sprint Invaders in southeast Iowa.

A crash on July 1 at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa had the Jim Watts Electric #4 team rebuilding for the rest of the month.  Bailey would return to action at 34 on August 5, finishing 11th.

Things got off to a good start for her last Friday at Jacksonville.  “We were able to win the heat,” says Bailey.  “We’ve been making some changes on the car since our crash a few weeks ago.  The car was finally comfortable for me.  Winning the heat was a good start to the night.”

Starting from outside row one of the main event, Bailey showed the way most of the race.  “The car felt as good as it has all year,” she says.  “There were a bunch of reds and yellows, and that kind of came back to bite us.  (Austin O’Dell) finally got around us with about five laps to go.  That made me mad, and I was trying really hard to get him back!  But it was good to finish up front.”

The sixteen-year-old driver is looking forward to putting the 360 in and running with the Sprint Invaders this weekend.  “We’ll definitely be running at Burlington (34 Raceway) with the Sprint Invaders on Saturday,” says Bailey.  “We’ll try to race at Donnellson on Friday too, but I’m not sure I can get out of school for that.  We’ll see.”
