Things started well in Amarillo on Saturday.  There was much speculation about how track conditions would play out, but that was put to rest.  “The track was really good,” says Wayne.  “It was really racy all night long.  We were able to go from fifth to third there in the heat race, and that got us in the redraw.  Luck was with us there, and we drew the pole.”

He would lead early on, but that turned into a three-way battle with Josh Baughman and eventual winner, Sam Hafertepe Jr.  “We were all right there battling for the lead at one point,” says Wayne.  “It was really a good race in the top five there for a little bit.  I think we got Baughman shuffled back.  Then at one point, I was in third, gaining on (Aaron) Reutzel.  That’s when Steven Russell spun out and I tagged him.  That let (Danny) Wood get by me.  I had to race with him up to the end.  We didn’t get him and ran fourth.”

Wayne felt good in the #2c.  “We should have had a second place car, to be honest,” he says.  “The driver made a couple of mistakes.  Sam had the best car; there was no doubt about that.  But we should have run second.  I got kind of messed up a couple times and chose the wrong line.”

The team is excited about the rest of this week, and then heading to the Pacific Northwest.  “We were sorry to miss Devil’s Bowl, but we have a good streak going at Lawton,” he says.  “We’ve been strong at these other tracks too, and this car is working a lot better than the other one we had.  We’re really looking forward to getting some races in right now.”
