Last Friday at River Cities was the only action for the team this week.  “It was track championship night, so everything is lined up by points,” says Mark.  “That put us in the back of heat, obviously, because we haven’t made too many shows there.  We were able to drive up to second, and it was a good race.  They had an awesome track Friday.  There was a nice cushion on the top and a bottom too in the heat.  We finished second behind (Wade) Nygaard there.”

Mark started fourth in the feature.  “They shocked me a bit,” he says.  “They tilled up almost the whole track before the sprint car feature and sprinkled it with water.  It had been getting fairly dry.  That threw me for a loop, but it turned into a great racing surface.  It was a bit heavy the first five to ten laps, and then it got to be awesome.  It was slick in the middle with a huge cushion on top.  There was enough on the bottom where if you had to deal with lapped cars, you could grab onto that.”

He moved forward.  “We raced up to second,” says Mark.  “Chris Ranten was leading and he was ripping it pretty good.  He’s been catching on the last few years, and he’s shown a lot of speed this year.  He was running a good pace and getting through lapped cars.  He was making good decisions and I was trying to hang with him.”

Mark made his winning move in traffic.  “We got about halfway through the race, and the track started coming to us,” he says.  “We were able to sneak by Chris and go on to win it.”

The team is ready to go for a track title at Jackson.  “We’re wrapping up things at Jackson,” says Mark.  “We have both Friday and Saturday there.  We’ve got a little bit of a point lead heading in, so we’re looking to have a solid weekend, and hopefully, get that championship.”
