Pennsylvania Speedweek Round 6

29 cars

Doug Esh (4th car out to time) set quick time at 13.311 seconds. Alan Krimes (8th car out) was second quick, followed by Mark Smith (1st), Brian Leppo (12th), Brian Montieth (3rd), Fred Rahmer (9th), Lucas Wolfe (19th), Jeff Shepard (5th), Chad Layton (13th) and Keith Kauffman (17th). The track dried quickly, benefiting the early timers. The crowd was estimated by some to be the largest ever at Lincoln Speedway.

Heat one (started): 1. Kauffman 7 (3) 2. Wolfe 5w (4) 3. Jim Siegel 59 (2) 4. Esh 30 (6) 5. Leppo 71 (5) 6. Niki Young 10n (8) / 7. Bobby Weaver X (7) 8. Dan Shetler 98 (9) 9. Sam Schlosberg 70 (10) 10. Lance Dewease 25 (1)

Dewease paced the 10 lapper before blowing up in smoke on lap eight. The caution was a bad break for Weaver, who had just passed Leppo for the final transfer. He did restart in sixth, but was passed with two to go by Young.

Heat two (started): 1. Stevie Smith 19 (3) 2. Brook Weibley 32 (1) 3. Shepard 4J (4) 4. Montieth 21 (5) 5. Eric Stambaugh 4 (7) 6. Cory Haas 11c (2) / 7. Scott Geesey 41 (8) 8. Krimes 87 (6) 9. Glenndon Forsythe 14 (9) 10. Steve Clabaugh 30c (10)

Weibley led briefly before S. Smith took over on lap two in the mostly single-file event. Stambaugh did well to break through the invert for a transfer.

Heat three (started): 1. Kyle Pruitt 22z (1) 2. Don Kreitz Jr. 69K (3) 3. Rahmer 22 (5) 4. Alan Cole 35 (2) 5. Layton 12 (4) 6. Chris Knopp 93 (8) / 7. M. Smith 1 (6) 8. Michael Carber 69 (7) 9. Bob Bennett 3 (9)

Pruitt led flag to flag from the pole. The best battle came when Knopp slid under M. Smith for the final transfer. M. Smith did all he could on the high side, but couldn't best the low riding Knopp.

B main (started): 1. Krimes (1) 2. Dewease (3) 3. M. Smith (2) 4. Weaver (4) 5. Geesey (6) 6. Carber (5) / 7. Shetler (7) 8. Bennett (9) 9. Schlosberg (10) 10. Forsythe (8) 11. Clabaugh (11)

Krimes led the distance as the lead trio separated from the pack in the 12 lapper. Dewease used a semi-dangerous move to loop around M. Smith with two to go in the non-stop event.

A main (started): 1. Esh (8) 2. Rahmer (5) 3. Krimes (9) 4. Kauffman (1) 5. Wolfe (4) 6. S. Smith (11) 7. Shepard (3) 8. Layton (2) 9. Dewease (16) 10. M. Smith (10) 11. Young (22) 12. Leppo (7) 13. Haas (14) 14. Carber (21) 15. Cole (15) 16. Montieth (6) 17. Knopp (24) 18. Geesey (23) 19. Siegel (13) 20. Pruitt (18) 21. Kreitz (12) 22. Weibley (17) 23. Weaver (19) 24. Stambaugh (20)

Kauffman streaked to an early lead, using the low side of the track. On lap three, Kauffman slowed coming out of turn four, handing the advantage to Shepard who had been dogging him on the high side. Three laps later, the trio of Siegel, Weaver and Stambaugh, who suffered enough damage to retire, spun, bringing a caution. Shepard led Kauffman, Rahmer, Esh and Layton. Kauffman was persistent on the bottom side and regained the point on lap nine. Two circuits later, Weaver slowed and retired bringing out another yellow flag. Rahmer worked by Shepard for second on the restart, and shot around Kauffman to take the lead on lap 17. Esh followed Rahmer by Kauffman on lap 19, taking over second, just before the final caution fell for a stopped Kreitz on lap 20. Rahmer led Esh, Kauffman, Layton and a surging Krimes back to green flag racing. One lap later, Esh made his winning move and pulled away for the win and $10,000. Layton bicycled on the last restart. He kept it right side up, but lost several spots. Young was the hard-charger, coming forward 11 spots.
