The veteran racer from Altoona, Iowa left the state of Florida with an extra $10k in his pocket after consistent runs in the preliminaries and holding off a stout field in the finale. TMAC will drop the 410 back in the car to compete with the Outlaws next week in Las Vegas.

It was a shorter swing than usual for TMAC in the Sunshine State, but the trip was a success. “We had a good run in Australia and we just weren’t quite ready to go for Volusia,” he says. “We got to East Bay and the chassis we have from Paul Silva was awesome. Paul is one of the best mechanics in the world and some of the advice he gave on setups was spot on. That combined with the support from Don Long and the 360 motors from Jamie Moyle were incredible. I really can’t thank Don and Jamie enough for everything they do.”

TMAC kicked off the weekend with a pair of 4th place finishes on the preliminary nights, before having the pole drawn for him in the Saturday night finale. He led all 40 laps and fended off a late slide job attempted by Tim Shaffer with three to go; picking up his third Laney Memorial win. “East Bay is one of my favorite tracks in the country. It’s such a tricky track to prepare for, which makes it a true driver and mechanic track,” he says. “We have so many friends down there that give us great support: Randy Burnett of Burnett’s Rock & Landscaping and Zac Creel at Dynasty Stucco make it possible for us to go down every year and they really take care of us. I also have to thank Bobby Myers and ‘Chubby’ from C&B for all of the help they provide.”

He spoke about how much making the trip to Florida and this event win means to him: “Dad would go down every year in the ‘70s and always came back with a tan, which was weird for February in Iowa, but now I get to go down with Austin and Carson. It’s become a great thing for all of the family. Also, I might be one of the few guys left out there that knew Ronald (Laney), so being able to support the event and keep his name alive is really special!”

TMAC noted that it was a great start to the season, but shared a bit of wisdom from one of the all-time greats in the sport. “Gary Wright once told me, ‘all the notes you can take in Florida are great, but once you cross the state line heading north, throw them out, because they won’t work anywhere else.”

TMAC Motorsports will be back in action next week, starting Wednesday, February 28th, in Sin City. “We’ll be putting Austin’s Simplot Grower Solutions #17A upstairs and have the SnowPlow.com #24 down below in the hauler to head west and run with the World of Outlaws in Las Vegas,” says TMAC. “It will be good to get Austin some seat time this early in the season and it’s always fun to race against the best.”
