Brady’s look for the Knoxville Nationals Brady’s look for the Knoxville Nationals (Bill W) August 1, 2016 – The Brady Bacon Racing #99 team is proud to announce the addition of three sponsors for the Knoxville Nationals.  The Nationals will commence August 10-13.  Priority Aviation, Think Wagyu and Gray Motorsports will all partner with the Broken Arrow, Oklahoma native for the Nationals.  Last week, Brady was in action in preparation for the upcoming Nationals.  This week will see five events, four of them in the FMR #76M midget.  The USAC National Midget Series will hit Fairbury, Nebraska on Tuesday and Beloit, Kansas for the Chad McDaniel Memorial Wednesday before descending on the 39th Annual Belleville Midget Nationals in Kansas Friday and Saturday.  Brady will hustle up to Knoxville Raceway to compete in the Capitani Classic in his #99 Sunday.

After scoring a top five and a ninth place finish Wednesday and Thursday with MOWA in Peoria and Quincy, Illinois, Brady towed to the Jackson Motorplex in Minnesota for the Barb Wieskus Classic Friday with the NSL.  He timed in seventh quick in the 30-car field and finished eighth in the feature.  “We were pretty good at Jackson,” he says.  “We had some fuel issues, the engine was getting a little hot, and faded back in the feature.  We had a car good enough to run with the top three, but I had some issues going on, and the driver didn’t run the best race.”

Saturday meant the first tune-up at Knoxville Raceway of the year.  “I thought we’d be pretty good at Knoxville, but we could hardly get around the racetrack,” says Brady.  “It’s pretty frustrating.  It seems whatever works all year, you can throw it out the window when you get to Knoxville.  The car just wouldn’t get around the racetrack with any speed at all.  We couldn’t even really tell how good the motor ran…that’s how bad the handling was.”

Brady will get another shot at the famous half-mile this Sunday for the Capitani Classic.  “We’ve changed a lot of things this year that have made us better everywhere,” he says.  “That wasn’t the case at Knoxville last week.  We’ll kind of go back to what we had at the end of the Nationals last year.  It was a little late, but we got the car rolling well on Saturday.  We’ll put that on Sunday and hope that it works for us.”

The NSL ran at Hancock County Speedway near Britt, Iowa last night.  Brady timed in well on a dry track.  “The track was super-slick and we hadn’t ever been there,” he says.  “So timing in seventh quick was pretty good and then we ran second in the heat.”

Starting fifth in the feature, he would try to go where everyone else wasn’t on what turned out to be a one-lane track.  “We tried the top for about three too many laps,” says Brady.  “We got shuffled back.  The track got super-dirty and it was one-lane around the bottom.  We fell back, and that’s where we were (12th).  It was disappointing, because you hope you’d have a track to race on, and even with that, we should have run a lot better.  We tried to make something happen, and it didn’t.”

This week’s midget action will be the first for USAC since June.  Brady is third in the standings, just 23 points behind leader Spencer Bayston and thirteen behind second place driver, Bryan Clauson.
