Brian Brown - Podiums at Cappy, Front Row Challenge Set up Nationals!

It's Christmastime in Knoxville (Chris Stowe - Finish Line Photo)It's Christmastime in Knoxville (Chris Stowe - Finish Line Photo) (Bill W) August 9, 2016 – Brian Brown and the Casey’s General Stores/FVP #21 team are ready for the 56th Knoxville Nationals.  The Grain Valley, Missouri driver registered podium finishes at both Knoxville Raceway’s “Capitani Classic” on Sunday, and Monday’s Front Row Challenge at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa.  Brian will qualify Wednesday night.

You started the week Friday night at the Knoxville 360 Nationals.

Things started out a little disappointing really.  We drew a good number (nine) and we weren’t able to capitalize on that (timing in tenth quick).  We were really good in the heat though, and went from fifth to second.

You were right there in the feature.

It was definitely a great race.  We had a good car there, and it was a good race first with Brooke (Tatnell), and then we were able to get by Dale (Blaney) after that close call.  Clint (Garner) was running well and got by us there late and ended up third.  That put us in pretty good shape for Saturday.

You started sixth in Saturday’s 360 Nationals feature, but you worked your way up.

We got off to kind of a rough start really.  I think we fell back to about tenth.  It took a while to get going, but once we did, I thought we may have had the fastest car out there.  We were passing Danny (Lasoski) there for second and had an engine failure.  That’s really rare.  That’s the first one for us in five years.  Charlie Garrett builds a really strong motor.

There were 62 cars Sunday for the Capitani Classic, and you had to be happy timing in fourth quick.

It really is one of the toughest if not the toughest one-night shows you’re going to find.  The team has been working really hard on our qualifying, and it paid off both Sunday and Monday at the Front Row Challenge.

You finished second in your heat and qualified for the Pole Shuffle.

We were able to get through a few rounds of the pole shuffle (setting a new two-lap track record of 31.9 seconds on the way), and that helped our starting position.  We had a good car in the feature, but so did Shane (Stewart) and Kerry (Madsen).  Finishing on the podium (third) with them is nothing to hang your head about.

Another strong field was at the Front Row Challenge in Osky Monday.

We were able to time in well  (second quick) and we made it through the heat.  We were able to get the lead early in the feature, but once the track slowed down, we were a little tight.  Again, a third place finish behind Daryn (Pittman) and Kerry was a good one.

Is the team ready for Wednesday?

I just wish we could qualify tonight to be honest.  We’re really excited, and we know we have a fast car going in.  Things have to fall your way, but we’re prepared and ready.  This is what we prepare for all year long.  The guys (Chad Morgan, Michael Williams, Wyatt Burks) have been working hard all year for this week.
