Josh timed in twelfth quick in his group at the Capitani Classic on August 7, finished second in the heat and ran 13th after starting 16th in the feature.  “If you can put it in the show at the Cappy, it’s a pretty good feather in your cap,” he says.  “There were a lot of good cars that loaded on the trailer there.  We wanted to pass a couple more cars and keep our top ten streak going.  We had the opportunity to do that, we just weren’t quite as good as we needed to be.  We were competitive though, we moved forward, and we were proud of that.”

Things started well for Josh last Wednesday.  After drawing a 26 for qualifying, he would time in 13th quick.  “We were extremely happy with our qualifying effort,” he says.  “We’ve been working so hard on that, and that’s been a hindrance for us all year.  We were really proud of that lap for as late as we went out.  It really set us up perfect for the evening.”

On a night that saw a fast track, he would start sixth in a tough heat and finish seventh.  “I just laid an egg in the heat race,” says Josh.  “That’s all there is to it.  I just screwed up.  They are all tough heat races, but I made a bad lap.  Essentially, that cost us the Nationals.  We couldn’t dig out of a tough B there (finishing ninth)…that’s an A main anywhere in the country.”

That sent the team to Friday where they would start over with 77 other cars.  “We knew we would have a tough time if we didn’t draw a good number,” says Josh.  “We drew towards the tail, we didn’t qualify well, and that set us up to where we finished 13th in the B.”

That would put Josh in the D main Saturday, where he would finish twelfth.  “I think we had a torsion bar go a little soft on us,” he says.  “The car was doing some funky things.  We’ll get that solved though and we’ll be alright.  Our Nationals were a little disappointing, but they can sober you.  I’m pretty sure there will be a 57th edition next year.  We’re happy because we have speed in our racecar, and we’ve been lacking that for a couple of years.”

The team is looking forward to the two-night Sprint Invaders event this weekend.  “We’re excited about both shows this weekend,” says Josh.  “We love to go to Donnellson and we love 34.  We love racing in front of the hometown fans.  They’re excited to see us, and we’re thankful that they come out and support the races.  We’re really pumped to get to those two tracks.”
