Brian and the team celebrate their win in Sedalia (Nicole Lee – High Fly’N Photo)Brian and the team celebrate their win in Sedalia (Nicole Lee – High Fly’N Photo) (Bill W) August 22, 2016 – Brian Brown and the Casey’s General Stores/FVP #21 team got just the “pick-me-up” they needed Sunday night by winning the $15,000 “High Roller Classic” at the Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia.  Thanks to Matt Wood Racing, who supplied their Ford power for the night, Brian was able to win, let alone compete.  Making it extra special was the fact that the MWR #17w team rode along to the races.  The Grain Valley, Missouri driver dedicated his win to Bryan Clauson.

After the 360 Nationals, you didn’t know if you’d be able to compete at Sedalia.

We were really lucky and thankful to have Matt Wood step up for us and let us use that engine.  We always wondered what it would be like to run a Ford, and it was really good.  It was even better than I expected.  Without him, we wouldn’t have even been able to compete.

You started fourth in your heat race.

I knew we had to get going.  Blake Hahn’s been running really well, and Sam Hafertepe was behind us.  We were able to get a good run on the start.  We led the first lap, and things went really well from there.

That put you in a redraw that saw you pull the third starting spot for the feature.

The bottom was the preferred line to take off, and Sam was up front.  We were able to get under him and (Josh) Baughman.  Sam peeled around the bottom of one and two, and we were able to get outside of him and get by.  We were able to lead there until we got to traffic.

How was it getting through traffic?

It was difficult.  The cushion was the predominant line, and you had to make your moves count.  We were able to get through traffic pretty well and kind of set sail.  Chad (Morgan) and Michael (Williams) had the car phenomenal.  We were able to go wherever we wanted.

It had to feel great to bounce back and win one close to home!

We are really thankful for all of our partners, but it was especially great to do well for our local sponsors down there, Impact, Ditzfeld Transfer, Champion Oil, Weld Wheels and our other partners in the Sedalia area.

It was also special in that you had the #17w crew ride with you from their shop in Grain Valley.

Every single one of the Elk Grove Ford #17w team was with us.  It was cool to be able to give them a little something to smile about, even if it was just for an hour.  They’ve had a rough couple of weeks to say the least.  Again, we have to thank Matt Wood.  That was the most special win we’ve had in a long time, if not ever.

This Saturday is Season Championship Night at Knoxville.

We’re looking forward to getting back up there.  We didn’t have the best Nationals, but we have a strong team.  They always bounce back.  They never give up, and work really, really hard.  To bounce back like we did at Sedalia gives us momentum heading back to Knoxville.  There’s still some money on line with the NSL and with the Knoxville points.  We’re looking forward to getting back there and hopefully, getting a win.
