Tuesdays with TMAC - Seeing Double Atop the Points

(Mark Funderburk Racing Photo)(Mark Funderburk Racing Photo) Des Moines, IA (July 25, 2018) – After a top five finish and a strong points night Saturday at the Knoxville Raceway, TMAC has the SnowPlow Snow Pushers #24 up to second in the point standings, behind only his son, Austin! With the busiest stretch of the season lying ahead, TMAC and the team will do battle this weekend with the All Stars Circuit of Champions and continue to prepare for the Knoxville Nationals.

Saturday night got off to a bit of a rough start off the track, as McCarl’s pill draw left him as the last car to take the track for qualifying, though he’d make the most of it. “I was really happy with our qualifying time after going out dead last,” said TMAC. “There were a lot of cars there Saturday with everyone getting ready for both the 360 and 410 Nationals, so to go out last and time in 4th shows just how strong we’ve been qualifying this year.”

Taking the green flag in his heat starting 6th, Terry noted that some peculiar track conditions left him feeling like he’d missed on the setup, even while he made his way to the front. “The cushion was really sticky in the heat races,” said TMAC. “I was out there thinking that the car didn’t feel great even though we got up to 2nd. When I got back to the pits and talked to some of the other drivers, I was happy to hear them all say the same!”

Starting the night’s A-main from the outside of the front row, McCarl would fall to third on the first lap and stay there until a couple of late race restarts. “Restarting 3rd with three laps to go, I knew I could follow Austin [McCarl] and Brian [Brown] on the cushion and finish on the podium,” said TMAC. “The competitive side got the best of me though and I tried the bottom and ended up falling back to fifth at the checkered.”

Terry’s decision to test the bottom came from what he had seen running his way through traffic earlier in the race. “When we had been racing through traffic, I felt like I had found something on the bottom, and if it had stayed green I thought we had a chance at the win,” said McCarl. “However, when I dove to the bottom on the restart, I realized my tires were too worn out and sealed up for us to make a run at the win.”

While the last few laps didn’t go to plan, a strong points night for the TMAC Motorsports team left them in a neat position. “The guys gave me a great car and the solid points night moved us up to 2nd in the points,” said TMAC. “With my son Austin leading the points, it would be really cool to end the season with us still 1 & 2!”

Even though Terry would love to be sitting atop the point standings, having his sons up there means even more to him. “Austin’s doing amazing and showing how much talent he has,” said TMAC. “In the next couple of years, hopefully Carson can get up there too and we can have three McCarls at the top.”

TMAC and the team will be in action this Friday night at the Jackson Motorplex with the All Stars, before returning to Knoxville to take them on again Saturday. While McCarl would love to head to one of his favorite tracks on Sunday, it’s currently yet to be determined. “I really love 34 Raceway in West Burligton,” said Terry. “There’s a chance we’ll race there on Sunday to cap off the All Star weekend, but we’ll be evaluating our motor situation after Saturday before making our decision.”

While Terry McCarl the driver is excited and getting ready for a weekend with the All Stars and both the 360 & 410 Knoxville Nationals, Terry McCarl the promoter has his hands full with the fast approaching Osky Challenges. Less than two weeks out from Monday, August 6th, TMAC can confirm there will be some added star power taking to the track at Southern Iowa Speedway; “It looks like there will be at least one NASCAR driver competing at the Front Row Challenge, as Kasey Kahne has confirmed he will be racing, and likely more!”

With two weekends of big events on the schedule between now and the Knoxville Nationals, there are some great opportunities to add your business to the list of partners supporting TMAC Motorsports. Secure your company’s spot on the top wing when Terry McCarl and the TMAC Motorsports team take on the All Stars Circuit of Champions this weekend!
