In hot laps, Mike Decker turned over in turn two.  He was unhurt, but didn’t return until his heat.  Four heat groups qualified.  Overall, Ryan Smith (5th car out to time) set quick time at 12.056 seconds.  The track was a little dry right away, as the field was off the 11.706 mark set by Brandon Spithaler when the All Stars stopped here last year.  Carson Macedo (6th car out) was second quick, followed by Cory Eliason (15th), Chad Kemenah (25th), Jeremy Schultz (3rd), Aaron Reutzel (29th), Paul McMahan (1st), Sammy Swindell (16th), Bill Balog (20th) and Jac Haudenschild (12th).

Heat one (started): 1. McMahan 13 (1) 2. Schultz 5J (2) 3. Macedo 3G (3) 4. Smith 11 (4) 5. Brandon Spithaler 22 (5) / 6. Sammy Walsh 5H (6) 7. Jordan Goldesberry 65 (7) 8. Todd Daun 19 (9) 9. Wayne Modjeski 14AJ (8) 10. Hunter Custer 29 (10)

10-lap heats took the top two to the Dash, and top five to the feature.  This one was mostly a single-file affair.

Heat two (started): 1. Jac Haudenschild 3 (1) 2. Swindell 59 (3) 3. Balog 17B (2) 4. Eliason 83 (4) 5. Parker Price-Miller 4 (6) / 6. Cale Conley 7K (5) 7. Ben Schmidt 73 (7) 8. Scott Uttech 7 (8) 9. Kris Spitz 4K (9) 10. Mike Reinke 02 (10)

Conley jumped Price-Miller’s tire on the start, and Spitz was also caught up.  Conley kept rolling.  Reinke was taken out and flipped on the next try at green.  He was o.k.  Once it got going, Haudenschild led the distance over Swindell and Balog.  Price-Miller worked his way up to fifth from the tail by the second lap.

Heat three (started): 1. Reutzel 87 (3) 2. Kemenah 10H (4) 3. Dominic Scelzi 41s (2) 4. Rico Abreu 24 (6) 5. Russell Borland 23 (1) / 6. Scott Neitzel 2w (7) 7. Carl Bowser 98 (5) 8. Tyler Esh 35 (9) 9. Steve Meyer 85m (8) 10. Nick Matuszewski 63 (10)

Reutzel used the low side to rocket under the front row heading into turn one and never looked back.  Scelzi settled into second, followed by Kemenah and Abreu.  Kemenah worked by Scelzi to earn a Dash spot on lap four.

Heat four (started): 1. Tony Stewart 14 (4) 2. Dave Blaney 70 (1) 3. Scotty Thiel 64 (3) 4. Joey Saldana 26 (2) 5. Jake Blackhurst 25 (5) / 6. Scott Biertzer 4B (7) 7. Jereme Schroeder 43 (8) 8. Mike Decker 12 (9) 9. Brandon McMullen 10w (6)

Blaney led early over Saldana and Stewart.  Thiel moved by McMullen for fourth on lap four.  McMullen would tag the wall hard on lap five and exit shortly after Blackhurst passed him for the final transfer.  Meanwhile, up front, Stewart used the low groove to work by Saldana and Blaney for the win.  Thiel gained third late in the going.

Dash one (started): 1. Smith (1) 2. Blaney (2) 3. Macedo (3) 4. Haudenschild (5) 5. Swindell (4)

Smith was gone in this 4-lapper that decided the inside of the first five rows.  Smith and Macedo qualified as having the top two quickest times in the top five (but not top two) of their heat.

Dash two (started): 1. Reutzel (2) 2. Stewart (1) 3. Kemenah (3) 4. McMahan (5) 5. Schultz (4)

Reutzel used the cushion in one and two to propel himself to the win.  McMahan patiently worked by Schultz to gain fourth late.

There wasn’t enough room getting into turn three on the first lap.  It saw Schroeder clip an infield tire and dump his sprinter, collecting Spitz, Daun and Uttech.  No one was hurt, but Uttech and Schroeder were done.  The second try at green saw Biertzer get crossed up down the backstretch.  The resulting chain reaction lasted until turn four where Esh, Schmidt and Matuszewski were victims.  All would refire.  Conley would lead the 12-lap distance over Walsh and Neitzel.  On lap two, Goldesberry grabbed the fourth and final transfer from Biertzer.  McMullen had one of the faster cars.  He had moved from row seven to fifth by lap three, and had moved into fourth by lap four, garnering the final transfer.

A main (started): 1. Smith (1) 2. Balog (11) 3. Blaney (3) 4. Kemenah (6) 5. Abreu (16) 6. Scelzi (13) 7. McMahan (8) 8. Eliason (14) 9. Price-Miller (20) 10. Swindell (9) 11. Thiel (12) 12. A tall ledge of a cushion developed throughout the night.  Despite efforts to run it in, no grader appeared to truly knock it out.  It made for a technical track and another entertaining race at the prairie.  Reutzel took off for another zip code at the drop of the green in the 35-lapper, entering lapped traffic on the third circuit, ahead of Smith, Stewart, Kemenah and Macedo.  Kemenah worked by Stewart to gain third on lap eight.  Two laps later, Macedo followed him into fourth.  On lap 12, Macedo would use the low side to shoot by Kemenah for the third spot.  Everything broke loose 12 laps in.  Haudenschild got above the cushion and into the turn four wall.  Slowly the caution came out.  I looked in turn three, and Reutzel was sitting there without his fuel tank.  At the same time, Saldana limped into the pits with front end damage.  Smith inherited the lead over Macedo, Kemenah, Stewart and Blaney.  Kemenah shot by Macedo for second, while Balog got by Blaney for fifth, and then Stewart for fourth on lap 14.  Macedo and Kemenah had a fierce battle going on for second, and Macedo claimed it again on lap 16.  The leaders were back in traffic on lap 19.  Smith would hop over the turn three cushion, allowing Macedo to lead lap 19.  Balog continued his charge, getting by Kemenah for third with eight to go.  Just two laps from the checkers, Macedo had something in the front end break, ending his winning run.  Smith would assume the lead on the green, white, checker finish, ahead of Balog, Kemenah, Blaney and Abreu.  Blaney would jump to third on the restart, but Smith was able to hold off Balog at the line for his seventh career All Star win.

Hot laps were used for qualifying.  The cars came out in three groups of eight (one seven).  Tyler Baran set quick time at 15.675 seconds, just six one-thousandths ahead of Scott Hatton.  Davey Ray was third quick, followed by Ryan Probst, David Budres, Zach Boden, Kevin Olson, Jordan Mattson, Kyle Brinkmann and Mike Stroik.

Heat one (started): 1. Kyle Koch 71 (6) 2. Pat Hensen 4 (1) 3. Harrison Kleven 29 (3) 4. Shay Sassano 31 (4) 5. Tristan Koenings 66T (5) 6. Joe Ebben 66E (7) 7. Mike Unger 76 (2)

The 8-lap heat was reserved for those outside the top sixteen in time.  Hensen led early over Unger and Kleven.  Unger would tag the wall on the second lap and retire.  Koch would assumed second and pass Hensen to win it with three to go.

Heat two (started): 1. Andy Baugh 57 (3) 2. Hatton 1 (8) 3. Mattson 77 (5) 4. Marty Saso 3L (2) 5. Stroik 9s (4) 6. Boden 2 (6) 7. Probst 99 (7) 8. Jake Goeglein 8 (1)

The top five finishers were eligible for the feature invert (ten).  Baugh led Saso and Goeglein early.  The battle for third on back went 4-wide on lap two.  Probst would catch the tough end of that, climbing another tire.  He was fortunate to save it, but the caution came out.  Baugh would hang on for the win, over Hatton, who was able to close on the restart.

Heat three (started): 1. Ray 3 (7) 2. Jack Routson 38 (3) 3. Baran 11 (8) 4. Budres 27 (6) 5. Olson 9K (5) 6. Brinkmann 5 (4) 7. Brian Peterson 7 (2) 8. Denny Smith 66 (1)

Smith exited before a lap was complete.  Routson led early over Peterson and Olson.  Baran gave Olson the chrome horn from behind to move into fourth on lap four.  He then passed Budres for third on lap five.  Ray was loyal to the cushion and moved up nicely before taking the lead with one to go to win an exciting one.

A main (started): 1. Ray (8) 2. Probst (11) 3. Mattson (5) 4. Hatton (9) 5. Olson (6) 6. Baran (10) 7. Budres (7) 8. Boden (12) 9. Brinkmann (13) 10. Stroik (4) 11. Saso (1) 12. Koch (20) 13. Peterson (14) 14. Routson (3) 15. Smith (15) 16. Hensen (17) 17. Koenings (22) 18. Kleven (19) 19. Sassano (18) 20. Baugh (2) 21. Goeglein (16) 22. Unger (21) DNS – Ebben

Saso led the 20-lapper early over Baugh and Routson.  Baugh would take the lead, and Mattson started moving forward taking third on lap two and second the next lap.  Goeglein stopped to bring a caution five laps in.  The restart saw Baugh ahead of Mattson, Routson, Budres and Olson.  Mattson shot by on the low side to take the lead when the green fell, while Budres moved into third.  A spin by Routson nine laps in, slowed things one more time.  Now Mattson led Baugh, Budres, Olson and Ray, who was pounding the rough cushion.  Ray would shoot from fifth to third on the restart, and on lap 12 passed both Baugh and then Mattson on the low side to take the point.  Baugh would follow him on the cushion to take second on lap 14, but one circuit later, he would pay the price for tempting the cushion.  He tagged the backstretch wall, and flipped wildly, gaining serious air time.  He would walk under his own power to the ambulance.  He did not need transport.  Ray would hold on to win the five lap Dash for the checkers.  Probst would close to go from fourth to second, when Budres jumped the cushion.
