All Stars

A large crowd gathered on the 150th edition of the Jackson County Fair Friday night.  73 sprint cars were pitside on a perfect night weather-wise.

There were five time trial/heat groups for the All Stars.  Kerry Madsen (fifth car out and $500 from DKW Transport) set quick time and led three drivers under the old Lynton Jeffrey track record of 12.690 with a lap of 12.580 seconds.  Tony Stewart (3rd car out and $325 from DKW) was second quick, followed by Cory Eliason (1st and $175 from DKW), Brian Brown (4th), Josh Baughman (16th), Aaron Reutzel (40th), Chad Kemenah (11th), Matt Juhl (22nd), Parker Price-Miller (6th) and Sammy Walsh (8th).  Spencer Bayston went up in smoke and did not a get a time in.  Trevor Mell and Colin Smith did not get a time in, and Kevin Ingle slowed during his try.  Rico Abreu also suffered issues and underwent a motor change.

Heat one (started): 1. Brown 21 (1) 2. Eliason 83 (2) 3. Price-Miller 4 (5) 4. Madsen 2m (4) / 5. Walsh 5H 6. Stewart 14 (3) 7. Scott Winters 23w (7) / 8. Brandon Spithaler 22 (8) 9. Alan Gilbertson 97 (9) 10. John Carney II 7 (10)

8-lap heats took the top four to the A, fifth through seventh to the B, and everyone else to the C.  The top two finishers in each heat, and the top two qualifiers making it through the heats were in the Dash.  Brown got the jump in this one.  Eliason pressured him most of the way.  The same was true for Price-Miller, who had Madsen breathing down his neck the whole way.

Dash two (started): 1. Baughman (1) 2. Madsen (2) 3. Brown (3) 4. Reutzel (6) 5. Swindell (4) 6. Phillips (5)

Baughman shot out and led the distance.  Reutzel and Brown had a great battle.  Reutzel grabbed third on lap three, but Brown was able to perform a slider on the last lap to grab the spot.

B main (started): 1. Stewart (1) 2. A. McCarl (3) 3. Veal (7) 4. Schuerenberg (5) / 5. Gee (4) 6. Kaeding (6) 7. Walsh (2) 8. Haudenschild (8) 9. R. Smith (14) 10. Conley (14) 11. RJ Johnson (9) 12. Whitney (12) 13. C. Smith (11) 14. Schulz (10) 15. Spithaler (15) DNS – Winters, C. McCarl

Scelzi (19) 24. Schuerenberg (24) 25. Phillips (12) 26. Prochaska (20)

The red flag hit before a lap could be completed.  Phillips spun collecting Prochaska and Schuerenberg. Schuerenberg restarted after a trip to the work area.  Baughman led early in the 30-lapper over Kemenah, Blaney, Brown and Madsen.  The leaders were in lapped traffic by lap seven.  Madsen and Brown went back and forth with Madsen taking fourth on lap nine.  Four laps later, he would grab third from Blaney and took second from Kemenah a circuit later.  Halfway in, Baughman led Madsen, Blaney, Reutzel and Kemenah.  All hell broke loose for the next five laps, as you could throw a blanket over the top five.  Madsen snuck by Baughman on lap 16 for the lead.  Kemenah shot into second, and was followed by Blaney, Reutzel and Baughman in a flurry of activity.  Reutzel worked his way into second on lap 18, and Kemenah had to pass Blaney to get back to third. As quickly as the racing got good, the track took rubber on the low side.  The last ten laps were single-file, with Madsen taking the $10,000 top prize.  R. Smith was the hard-charger.

Johnson.  Hughes would jump to third on the restart.  Ballenger slowly reeled in Schultz and passed him for the lead on lap ten.  He would pull away to victory.  Hughes would pass Schultz for second with two to go, and K. Johnson would come on late for third.
