King’s Challenge

61 cars

The cars were split into two groups for qualifying. The first group comprised heats one and two, and the second heats three and four. The top 24 cars in each group qualified for the heats, while the remainder went to a Non-Qualifier race. Cole Macedo (11th car out to time) had the quickest time in Group 1 and overall at 11.609 seconds. Aaron Reutzel (8th car out) was second quick, followed by Ryan Timms (26th), Tate Frost (18th) and Brock Hallett (5th). The second group was led by Jock Goodyer (18th car out) at 11.752 seconds. He was followed by Kerry Madsen (3rd), Luke Storer (9th), Dayne Kingshott (16th) and Tim Kaeding (21st). Dylan Jenkin was sixth quick on his first lap, but flipped hard on his second. His team thrashed to make repairs for the heat race.

The 12-lapper filled the back of the C main. Potts made contact with the wall after contact with a competitor and exited early. Davis led the distance.

10-lap heats took the top five to the feature. The quickest time making it through the heat and heat winners went to the Dash. Hallett led throughout and then went through an engine change. Timms challenged the leader late, but fell just short on a sticky narrow track at this stage.

Frost led the distance in a mostly single-file affair.

Goodyer got into the wall at the start, ending his night. Kaeding led wire to wire. Williamson bowed out with mechanical issues.

Contact from Titman sent Guerin upside down hard. He was uninjured. A. Attard was collected. One lap got in with McHugh leading when Farrer got sideways, t-boning Saller and sending both flipping. No one was seriously hurt.

C main (started): 1. Wyllie (4) 2. Schuerenberg (1) 3. Davis (6) 4. Gardner (3) 5. Wright (7) 6. Johns (9) / 7. Walker (10) 8. Stirton (8) 9. Thomas (11) 10. Hutchins (12) 11. Hose (14) 12. Potts (16) 13. Jones (2) 14. Keen (13) 15. Alexander (15) 16. Hobson (5)

All started the B and raced for order in this 12-lapper. Jones led Wyllie and Schuerenberg early. Three laps in, Alexander flipped. He was unhurt. Jones bowed out on a lap 10 caution while leading.

The 8-lapper set the A main starting lineup for the first four rows. McHugh led the distance in a mostly single-file race.

B main (started): 1. Enderl (1) 2. I. Madsen (4) 3. Menz (2) 4. Scott (3) / 5. Hickman (8) 6. Doukas (5) 7. Titman (6) 8. Dumesny (9) 9. Morgan (12) 10. Sayre (7) 11. Corbet (18) 12. Menz led Enderl, I. Madsen and Scott early in the 15-lapper that took the top four to the feature. Enderl came on strong late to take the lead on lap 12. I. Madsen was on the move late as well and grabbed second from Menz with three to go.

The 30-lapper began with I. Madsen and Scott stopping in turn two before a lap was completed. McHugh led early over K. Madsen, Cole Macedo, Reutzel and Kaeding. One lap in, Frost spun on the backstretch. McHugh led the restart over K. Madsen, Cole Macedo, Reutzel, Kaeding and Hallett. Timms was threatening a top five three laps in, but almost got into the turn four wall. McHugh entered lapped traffic on lap seven. McHugh had four lapped cars between he and K. Madsen eight laps in. At that point, McFadden got upside down in turn four. He was ok. A handful of cars were involved or collected, including Jenkin, Charge and I. Madsen. The restart saw McHugh leading K. Madsen, Cole Macedo, Reutzel, Kaeding and Hallett. L. Storer entered the top 5 on lap 14 and passed Reutzel for fourth on lap 15. The caution came out for Guilford, who slowed to a stop on the front straight with 14 to go. McHugh. K. Madsen, Cole Macedo, L. Storer, Reutzel and Timms was the restart order. Storer and Timms found something against the wall and were charging. A three-way battle for fourth went to Timms with 13 to go as he blasted between Storer and Reutzel. McHugh was back in traffic with 7 to go. Timms shot under Cole Macedo for third with 6 to go. Charge flipped hard at that point right in front of the flagstand. The restart saw McHugh leading K. Madsen, Timms, Cole Macedo and L. Storer. Timms shot by K. Madsen for 2nd and set his sights on McHugh. The caution fell just before the checkers when Kaeding came to a stop in turn four. The green, white, checker finish saw McHugh leading Timms, K. Madsen, Cole Macedo, L. Storer and Reutzel. L. Storer reclaimed fourth. Despite a late spin, the checker was thrown, and McHugh was declared the winner.
