The drive across Wisconsin was long, but easy on the eyes. The racing action at Powercom would be great as well.
Jeff Shepard paced the field in time trials with a track record lap clocking 11.863 seconds. Superior winner Kenny Jacobs was second quick, followed by Paul McMahan, Craig Dollansky and Shane Stewart. The night ended early for Dennis Spitz who turned it over in hot laps. Michael Strader had problems keeping his machine running and also was out of action.
Last Chance Heat (started): 1. Paul Geib 77 (1) 2. Dave Quist 4Q (2) / 3. Jason Stefen 49 (5) 4. Roger Hurst 56 (4) 5. Andy Zipperer 92 (3) DNS - D. Spitz 41, Strader 7m
The top two transfers tagged the tail of the C main. Zipperer, in his first night in a sprint car, brought out the only caution in the event with a lap one spin.
Heat one (started): 1. Stewart 9h (2) 2. Donnie Goeden 27G (6) 3. Shepard 4J (3) 4. Todd Hepfner 28 (5) 5. Kim Mock 1m (4) / 6. Jason Statler 00 (1) 7. Bob Bennett 3B (8) 8. Brian Carlson 18 (7) 9. Bill Waite Jr. 3JR (11) 10. Mike Stefka 33 (10) 11. Billy Warren 3R (12) 12. Craig Lager 3c (9)
Statler broke out to the early lead and looked strong until suffering a flat right rear on lap seven. He came back through the pack, but came up a car short of the invert. Stewart looked strong, while Goeden used the restart to gain several positions.
Heat two (started): 1. Ronald Laney 52 (1) 2. Jacobs 6 (3) 3. Jerrod Hull 51 (2) 4. Randy Kinser 14 (5) 5. John Sernett 91 (4) / 6. Steve Meyer 85m (6) 7. Dean Lukey 44 (8) 8. Bob Martin 10T (9) 9. Kurt Winker 7k (7) 10. Jay Sachs 23J (11) 11. Romy Baus 74 (12) 12. John Tierney 7T (10)
Not much passing, but Hull made a late race bid to get back around Jacobs.
Heat three (started): 1. Jason Meyers 14m (2) 2. Danny Smith 4 (4) 3. McMahan U2 (3) 4. Jimmy Carter 14c (6) 5. Raymond Hensley 1R (1) / 6. Darrell Dodd 11 (10) 7. Brian Kristan 5 (9) 8. Bob Walldan 78 (7) 9. Kris Spitz 4K (11) 10. Joe Kristan 14K (8) 11. Kraig Kinser 11K (5) DNS - KJ Skelton 80
K. Kinser bowed out while running fifth with motor problems. It was his first trip to Powercom since a flip there in July. Carter got by Hensley with an unclean slide job, much to the displeasure of the "Wild Thing". Both transferred anyway. Meyers looked strong out front.
Heat four (started): 1. Brad Furr 2F (2) 2. Dollansky 7 (3) 3. Blake Feese 1F (4) 4. Scott Neitzel 2w (6) 5. Joe Roe 61 (1) / 6. Troy Hepfner 28h (7) 7. Travis Whitney 9 (5) 8. Paul Ptasienski 15 (10) 9. Kevin Hinich 34 (11) 10. Doug Dean 2D (9) 11. Dan Boorse 84 (8) DNS - Troy Wondra 32w
Many time midget champ Boorse hit the turn one wall on the initial green flag lap. He retired for the night. Neitzel and Roe had a great battle for fourth. Furr left the field behind. Troy Hepfner was impressive, but only got to Roe's bumper.
C feature (started): 1. Ptasienski (3) 2. Dodd (2) / 3. Tierney (1) 4. Sachs (5) 5. Waite (4) 6. Hinich (7) 7. K. Spitz (6) 8. Baus (8) 9. Geib (9) 10. Quist (10) DNS - Boorse
Ptasienski made the winning pass in turn four on the final circuit. The only yellow was brought out by a Geib spin on lap four.
Dash one (started): 1. Stewart (1) 2. Smith (4) 3. Shepard (5) 4. McMahan (6) 5. Meyers (2) 6. Goeden (3)
Goeden dropped out on lap one. Stewart looked extremely strong getting by race-long leader Meyers on the white flag lap. Meyers tried to get back under Stewart, but made contact with him and spun. He was credited with fifth.
Dash two (started): 1. Jacobs (3) 2. Laney (1) 3. Hull (5) 4. Dollansky (4) 5. Roe (6) 6. Furr (2)
The battles were taking place for the final three spots as Dollansky, Roe and Furr swapped places several times.
B feature (started): 1. Meyer (4) 2. Whitney (3) 3. K. Kinser (2) 4. Winker (6) / 5. Carlson (5) 6. Martin (13) 7. Bennett (9) 8. Ptasienski (17) 9. J. Kristan (11) 10. Walldan (7) 11. B. Kristan (14) 12. Stefka (16) 13. Dodd (18) 14. Statler (1) 15. Lukey (10) 16. Lager (12) 17. Troy Hepfner (8) 18. Dean (15)
More bad luck for Statler, who led up until another flat tire on lap ten. He would take a provisional to make the A. Bennett took a provisional as well. Winker edged Carlson by a wink for the final transfer. Troy Hepfner was running well, but was black-flagged on the lap 10 restart for hitting the cone.
A feature (started): 1. Jacobs (2) 2. Hull (6) 3. Meyers (9) 4. Smith (3) 5. McMahan (7) 6. Shepard (5) 7. Laney (4) 8. Todd Hepfner (17) 9. Roe (10) 10. R. Kinser (18) 11. Neitzel (23) 12. Statler (26) 13. Dollansky (8) 14. Bennett (25) 15. Stewart (1) 16. Mock (14) 17. Meyer (21) 18. Hensley (13) 19. Sernett (15) 20. K. Kinser (19) 21. Carter (20) 22. Winker (22) 23. Whitney (24) 24. Feese (16) 25. Goeden (12) 26. Furr (12)
Stewart, looking strong took the early lead before Jacobs got around him on lap four. Furr and Goeden got together and flipped hard on lap eight bringing out the red. Feese, K. Kinser, and Meyer spun together in turn four on lap ten, bringing out a caution. All restarted at the tail. Shepard was now on the move as well as Hull. Shepard took second from Stewart and began his pursuit of the Mouse. Stewart was able to take second back about halfway through the event. On lap 29 Stewart spun, and had to go to the tail. Hull was now in second and running well. Also midway through the event, Dollansky did a 360 taking him out of the top ten. Carter flipped hard on the backstretch with six laps to go in the 40 lap event. Jacobs led the rest of the way for a $5000 payday in his first visit to the track.
360s
MSA Race of Champions (started): 1. Scott Uttech 21G (9) 2. Kurt Davis 6K (2) 3. Billy Warren 95 (11) 4. KJ Skelton 80 (6) 5. Lloyd Dykstra 90 (8) 6. Andy Gluen 8 (5) 7. Troy Wondra 32w (12) 8. Jerry Ski 00s (7) 9. Al Schlafer 26 (13) 10. Lance Fosbender 7 (1) 11. Danny Schlafer 25 (3) 12. Curt Grant 36 (4) 13. Randy Sippel 39s (10)
A 20 lapper for MSA 2000 feature winners proved to be entertaining, as S. Uttech used the last lap and a restart to pass Davis for the win. The pass came on the low side of the track, which Uttech used to move through the pack. Sippel exited early. Fosbender was running fourth when he came to a stop with two to go. Grant was collected in the incident and went pitside.
