The Eagle Eye Classic presented by Nebraska Septic, Empire Fence and Netflix Tires was held at Eagle Raceway Saturday. The weather looked a little iffy with a storm with lots of lightning was headed towards the track. A few drops of liquid sunshine fell but nothing came of it until the S&L Trenching IMCA Modifieds finished their heat races and the Nebraska Septic IMCA Racesaver Sprints rolled onto the racing surface. The announcers told the fans in the 2 high-rise grandstands to come down to the regular seating. The rain worsened and the sprints were sent back to their pit stalls. After an unexpected intermission, the track was rolled in again and racing continued.
There were 3 serious incidents in the preliminary action. In the AM Contracting IMCA Stock Car’s first heat the 19 of Kyle Vanover got loose after contact with the 6 of Roger Elliot, came down and Dana Deeke’s #36 slid up into and hit the wall in turn one, bounced off and ended up barrel rolling into turn 2, ending up on his roof. He was not seriously injured but his night was through. Then in the Nebraska Septic IMCA Sprint Car B Main Juliana Satriano ended up on her top wing in turn 2. She was shaken but not injured. Finally, in the AM Contracting IMCA Stock Car B Feature Casey Woken lost the left rear tire on his #35JW and ended up spinning to a halt on the back stretch. Unfortunately, Chad Andersen was unable to stop and slammed head-on into Woken at nearly full speed. Neither driver was seriously injured.
Cameron Thompson led lap 1 of the Nebraska Septic IMCA Sprint Car A in the 2T with Brad Schreiner’s 10, the 17 of Justin Bolte and Nate Weiler in the 4W. Bolte passed Schreiner for second on lap 2. Corbin Erickson put his #18 into fourth place the next time around but lost the spot to the 77X of John Klabunde on lap 4. Alex Salzman’s 2A and Schreiner made contact in turn 1 on lap 10 with Salzman coming to a halt on the track in turn 2. Both Salzman and Schreiner rejoined the field at the rear. Brandon Horton’s 1B went to the infield with a flat tire. Thompson, Bolte, Erickson and Klabunde were the top 4 on the Choose Cone restart.
Trevor Grossenbacher caught a rut in turn 3 and headed straight up the track, scraping
along the wall in turns 3 and 4 and was towed to the pits and the red lights were lit in the corners. Weiler moved back up to third on the restart with Bolte retaining fourth place. Tyler Drueke got too high and hit the turn 1 wall 2 laps after the restart and pulled to the infield but the caution flag flew due to debris from Drueke’s #12. Thompson, Erickson, Weiler and Bolte were the top 4 after the Choose Cone. Erickson grabbed the lead away from Thompson on lap 14. Just 4 circuits remained when Schreiner hit the implement tire in turn 1 and ended up flipping and the red flag was brought out again. From there to the checkers the top 4 remained unchanged with Erickson pulling away and winning by over 35/100’s of a second. Thompson, Weiler and Bolte rounded out your top 4.
This was Erickson’s second trip to America’s Home Track this season, making the long haul from Sioux Falls, South Dakota and wanting to get in some laps before the IMCA Racesaver Nationals Labor Day Weekend and his first ever victory at the facility. Next week is Junior Fan Club Night, presented by Nebraska Septic and AM Contracting. All 5 IMCA classes will be in competition.
Grandstands open at 5:15 with adult admission being $20 and those 12 and under free.
Pit gates open at 3:00 with pit admission being $30.
